The room was nice and spacious, cozy and comfortable. They have an amazing variety of onsen and perhaps the only place with mixed onsen which I enjoyed very much with my husband. Staff was amazing as well.

Located in the centre of Kurokawa Onsen, Oyado Noshiyu offers outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, Japanese-style accommodations and a traditional teahouse. Amazing atmosphere and incredibly nice staff. Delicious food. A beautiful place “suspended in time”.

Situated in the centre of the Kurokawa Onsen Area and boasting a total of 8 indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Nanjoen offers traditional Japanese-style accommodation with tatami (woven-straw) flooring... The room was lovely, large tatami room with a table and chairs by a hand he window with a view of the mountains. The bath was well appointed and serene with a nice open air bath area. The dinner and breakfast were just delicious. Highly recommend!

Circondato dalla foresta, lo Yamashinobu è una struttura tranquilla che offre vasche termali calde pubbliche e private, un osservatorio astronomico, un pianoforte, alcune sistemazioni in stile... I travelled with my husband and 9 month old, and our stay was fantastic! We booked a private room, with dinner and breakfast included, and I'm so glad we did. The food was amazing, a great mix of Kumamoto local cuisine (basashi, and karashi renkon) with some wonderful Japanese staples (sashimi, soba and udon, miso soup). The staff were so kind to us, and when my daughter got a little fussy (tired) they would come by to make her smile and giggle. It was really appreciated. If you are traveling with a baby or young child I do think booking a private room as better, because the other outdoor onsens are great, but there isn't an area to change your baby when you get in and out of the bath, so it can be a little chilly. (Maybe more applicable to winter, spring-summer is probably fine).

The staff was incredibly welcoming, happy to help us around; both before our stay as well as on site — they even took care of parking our rental car :) Meals (both dinners and breakfasts) were one of the highlights of the stay, with an amazing variety of truly excellent dishes — and different everyday! The onsen was amazing, we truly appreciated having the option to book a private room for ourselves, as this was our honeymoon. The rooms was great as well, in a traditional japanese setting, with extremely comfortable futons, a private bath, and an adjoining tea room.

Situato a soli 5 minuti a piedi dal centro del quartiere delle sorgenti calde di Kurokawa, il Ryokan Ichinoi offre sistemazioni in stile giapponese con vestaglie giapponesi Yukata. High chance of getting the onsen to yourself (hotel guests only in the evenings, and there are probably less than a dozen rooms). And it's a very nice indoor+outdoor onsen! Huge traditional breakfast in private little booths was amazing.

Boasting an open-air bath, garden and views of garden, Kyutei is situated in Minamioguni, 39 km from Mount Aso. This ryokan offers free private parking and luggage storage space. Staff are very friendly and helpful; facilities are clean and in very good condition; food is good and portion is satisfactory. They have duo-chef in the restaurant offering Japanese and French cuisines.
