Despite booking a room with lift access, our room was out of the building, through the rain, and up six flights of stairs. Staff - especially the tattooed man - tended to argue with us (once to insist our non-functional mini-fridge was a "room temperature cooler"). We were told on check-in we had an upgrade, but instead our room had no character features like the ones pictured on this site, and no lift access. Breakfast was at best mediocre, and delivered by an incompetence of junior staff. The bathroom tap was falling off. My wine - offered from the bar as compensation for the stairs - was from a bottle open a day at least (probably two). Every time another guest on our staircase entered or left their room, their slamming door woke us. It was impossible to drive up to the front of the hotel to load luggage - we had to drag it a quarter mile. Finally, when we checked out, the chap at the desk implored me to leave a ten-star review here. A ghastly experience!

We had asked for rooms next to each other. This was not done and we were on different floors. Rooms were of different sizes though of same category. Only one of two rooms was upgraded on arrival so we were unable to except it as it meant different buildings. So we had to shift the second day. We were eventually given an excellent room, however the other one was tiny and very uncomfortable. The staff were unable to provide a plastic chair for bath for a senior citizen as the property did not own one.

The location is excellent and very good for all visits.

Some attention to detail needed. Bathroom has limescale on taps, heated mirror and light didnt work. And felt a bit grubby.

The breakfast was disappointing and not worth the charge. There was a menu posted in the elevator which was substantially better than the one we were offered at breakfast. If the true menu was the one displayed prior we would not have added the cost of breakfast.

We paid for breakfast. On the first morning we ordered a hot breakfast which arrived after 50 minutes despite asking three members of staff if our food was arriving - never updated us. Very disappointing. The second day at breakfast was better. The cooked breakfast was ok but they had very delicious bread as part of the buffet breakfast. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel breakfast but the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable and location was great.

Every tile was broken in bathroom, lime scale and mould, and hotel only 10 pounds less than a hilton!! I asked for top level room as light sleeper, didn't get request, and guy above come home at midnight woke us up from creaking floors 2 am sounded like guy above dropped a bag of bricks on floor... We had to send omlete back as was ton off oil swimming in

For the price per night, I felt disappointed in the level of cleanliness as the grouting in the bathroom was mouldy and dis-coloured. The painted woodwork in our room was very badly chipped and was in need of some TLC. There was no sound-proofing or double-glazing which led to a sleepless night due to about 50-60 people outside the hotel at 4 a.m. and the response from the reception staff when we were asked to 'grade our stay' was 'well that's what you get with a city centre location'. I've stayed in many city centre hotels over the year and have never heard that much noise!!!!

The hotel has a good central location. The staff at breakfast were very attentive and the food was delicious and freshly cooked to order.

Minimal staffing levels on the Saturday- disinterested customer care. 2 single beds put together, uncomfortable mattress with a thin topper. Very poor finish in the rooms, paint slapped on, lime scale all over the bathroom. Towels with holes in. The hotel purports to be expensive and upmarket, but clearly isn’t with minimal staffing and poor attention to detail in rooms. We stayed in a ground floor room which was poorly soundproofed- you could hear everything at night outside.

The room we supposedly booked here was bright, spacious and on an upper floor (“lift access”), according to Booking.com. In reality, The room we were given was painted black, on the ground floor of the slightly musty smelling annexe next door. Opening the curtains was out the question, as it would have been like the proverbial goldfish bowl. The promised seating area was a chair next to the front door. The room was well-equipped and clean, but not a place you’d want to spend any time in. Pretty noisy at night too.

Breakfast was disappointing. We waited over 30 mins for hot food and when it came, it was cold. I had to chase four times after our visit for a partial refund agreed with the Manager on the day.

The rooms were small, and we had booked two rooms with the wish to stay close together as a family. We ended up on opposite sides of the hotel.

The staff was very friendly, and breakfast was good. The location is just minutes away from the Roman baths and the Abbey.

There was a bit of mould in the bathroom, by the window and just over the tiles in the shower. Nothing too worrisome, but worth keeping an eye on. The "wardrobe" was very stylish but it had barely any room in it. Our coats were so thick, we ended up having to throw them over the chair instead or putting them in the wardrobe. The window in the room was jetted on the bottom half so I couldn't really see the outside (only the sky and the very top of a few tall buildings). However the massive window in the toilet wasn't, so anyone could've sneaked a peak. We had to keep the curtain closed the whole time we were there which meant no natural light. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was also quite loud. Was quite frustrated trying to connect my phone to the TV. I followed all the instructions and the chromecast just wouldn't work. Youtube wouldn't perform any searches either. At least there was a good selection of channels on the TV.

My absolute favourite thing were the robes and slippers in the toilet (even if the slippers were paper thin). The bedding was lovely and thick and the room was very stylish, specially compared to most "standard" rooms I've ever stayed in. The staff was lovely and helpful. The breakfast was very good. The earlier you go the more likely you are to get pastries. We were lucky enough to make it in time to get some of the delicious chocolate twists. As a vegetarian, it was probably the first time my plate looked better than my boyfriend's. Specially recommend the vegan "bacon".

Our room wasn't cleaned in three days, TV was jumpy, several breakfast items missing, bar closed at about 21.30pm and no staff able to serve drinks, was told last week a manager would contact us to discuss the issues but never did

Staff were all helpful and working under a lot of pressure. Looks like staff levels were been cut short. Sally in breakfast was excellent but she was on her own
