Nothing. The only issue was trying to get a taxi to/from Oakham. A long list provided by the team, none of the taxis could help.

My original room was very small without chair or anything to sit on in the evening, very basic but when I mentioned it at reception it was changed straight away.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely decor and quality teas, coffees and toiletries in the room. Comfy bed and peaceful location. There was a wedding on and I didn’t hear any noise from the celebrations and I went to bed early!!

We had a meal in the hotel on a Sunday evening. From ordering to being served was almost two hours. The food was very good but the wait was very disappointing.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice.

On Booking.com the room was advertised as having a double bed and sofa bed but this was not the case so one of us had to sleep on the floor. The room was incredibly hot with poor ventilation and very noisy as many guests walked past our room talking loudly after we had gone to bed

Dinner was outstaning. WE both have dietary needs and the chef and waiter were excellent in adapting to our needs and the food was incredible.

There were 14 in our party, we had booked for dinner Friday evening - even though we booked months ago, we were sitting on 3 tables. We were originally asked to make our choices while we were having drinks but then the waiter took our orders at individual tables ; the food arrived at different times. Food was ok, but some people commented their puddings were hard. Breakfast - what we had wasn't quite what the menu said, for example Boiled eggs and Marmite soldiers was ordered but it was just boiled eggs ( the waitress seemed surprised when we requested the marmite soldiers ). Vegetarian / vegan choices very limited but oat milk was available.

Peaceful hotel around an attractive courtyard. Very comfortable bed and a nice bedroom.

There was only one chair in the bedroom, so one of us had to sit on the bed all the time. There was no hairdryer provided, but luckily enough, I had brought my own

From the time we arrived, the staff were warm and friendly, making us feel valued and welcome. From the complimentary glasses of wine on arrival, hand written personalised note left welcoming us placed in the room, to the gin liquer samplers on the tray.Their service was outstanding, and they were keen to help with anything throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, although we would have benefitted by having 2 chairs in the room for the two of us, not one. A lovely shower with excellent water pressure and temperature. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice was provided. The hotel has been beautifully decorated inside but still maintains a lovely, warm, cosy feel to it. The courtyard was very pretty, and we had a fantastic view from our window overlooking the beautiful countryside.

The hit-and-miss service that has always been a feature in the restaurant and bar of Barnsdale Lodge hasn't yet been improved upon. An efficient maitre d' is needed at meal times, and the systems and staff training could be much improved. Sitting in the revamped 1760 restaurant (as opposed to the conservatory area) feels a bit like Crewe Junction, with staff periodically whizzing past out of the kitchen to go to one of the private rooms. The food is good, but the menu is a bit limited in range (and isn't cheap).

The upgrading of the hotel has improved certain facilities, including the furniture in the conservatory, which needed an upgrade, and the bathroom in our room (most of these were very tired before). Moving the bar to give it more space has also been a plus.

Another flat surface for our own items, e.g. computer would have been useful in our room. The narrow selection of teas was disappointing - no fruit/mint/ camomile options. Nowhere beside kettle to put wet spoon etc - it's a small thing, but making a cuppa just hadn't been thought through! I had to go looking for the waitress on our second morning to get a coffee 🙁. Everything is in place for Barnsdale being an excellent hotel, just not quite there yet.

Lovely spacious comfortable room and very comfy bed. Good breakfast choice and quality to match, Delicious food on the dinner menu over all 3 courses, beautifully cooked and presented with good wine to match. The outside pathway will be lovely once the area is fully planted and established.

Only a small gripe: the quantity of breakfast served could be a little more generous.

The hotel was lovely. Much recent refurbishment was really nicely done. Room was spacious, warm and very comfortable, and the shower was excellent. Staff were fantastic without exception.
