Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomGreat location for any visitor(s) to Durham. Staff at the hotel are especially polite and very helpful (without being intrusive). We arrived a little early which wasn't a problem for the staff or for checking in. Nice, large clean room with a lovely view of the river, nice also to just sit and watch the many rowing boats going up and down the river. Breakfast was very pleasant.

FranceNothing springs to mind at all!
We booked the hotel for its proximity to Durham University and we were not disappointed. Within minutes, we were on the Bailey. Due to the university event, breakfast was full of parent + young person pairs and there was plenty of food and beverages. The staff was very friendly. I'll certainly be back.

United KingdomAs a group of 8, we all found the stay in the rooms was lovely but basic. The 2 rooms we booked were very clean and comfortable. The staff at the front desk on arrival was very friendly and helpful and made us all feel very welcome. I don't recall the 2 lady's names but I would like you to thank them on our behalf. ( I'm sure that they won't be hard to find out who they are as they booked us in) The breakfast was delicious, and we all enjoyed it very much. I wasn't impressed that our room was not connected to the main hotel to get the breakfast room. As we had to walk through a car park in the rain to get to the main part of the hotel. I was very disappointed with the location where we were put. I booked this hotel because I use the leasure side of the Marriott at home as I am a member and was expecting to be placed in the hotel itself. I did not know that there was an out building at the back of the hotel, or I wouldn't have booked up to stay. I know we were a party of 8 and we wanted this stay to be special as it was for a special occasion, we were very respectable and polite. I did find this to be degrading to put in an out building, especially for the price we paid. This was never explained in an email, or when I rang up to pay, i was lead to believe we were in the hotel. If I had known this pirer, I would have cancelled. I paid for a over night stay in a hotel, not the back of a separated building where we all felt excluded. And for that, I would not be booking the Marriott to stay as a guest in the future as I like to stay in a hotel and not to feel outcasted to the back that's not even attached. Regards

United KingdomWe ate at the bar. We had a ham sandwich £10. There was 1 slices of ham and the bread was so dry it was turning up at the sides. Chunky chips were not cooked in the middle. When we complained staff were very understanding and refunded the money. So sad as a hotel of this standard should not sell sub standard food
The rooms were a nice size, clean and beds were very comfortable

United KingdomThe failure of the hotel gas supply on the day of our departure was unfortunate! Whilst not their fault, it would have been nice if the hotel had offered some compensation for the reduced facilities (i.e the freezing cold showers and reduced breakfast options).
A large, clean, and comfortable room in a lovely hotel. Durham is a beautiful city, and the hotel is close to the Cathedral, the castle, the river, and a range of excellent restaurants.

United KingdomThe view from my room (both windows) was of a roof and exit air vent. No view whatsoever: I don't think the hotel was full, so why not allocate the nicest rooms first? Or discount those with awful views? I also thought breakfast would be better - not sliced bread or machine made coffee. No coffee or tea making facilities in the room.
Welcome desk staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Restaurant staff were also very attentive. Room and bathroom were lovely inside
