Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

No need for any improvements.
We used to come up to York every year,but hadn't been able to travel for some time. We enjoy the location by the Tower, the staff are always welcoming, and it is a pleasure to visit. Breakfast opposite the Tower is always enjoyable,and the lady who prepares eggs to one's choice is a breath of fresh air to start the day well.

Breakfast was served between 7-10 and everything is completely cleared at 10. Coffee machine switched off. Toaster switched off mid toast getting made!

Low water pressure in shower and non adjustable height. I'm 5'7" and the shower head kept flopping onto my head. Pillows were way too soft and I needed all four to get any support. No plug sockets or USB at bedside for charging phone.

This was the only disappointing part of my stay with you. I'd have expected a little more variety and better quality in relation to options and the what was presented.
Location, room and breakfast all very good. Evening menu was very basic and over priced for what it was.

Got back from the theatre at 10:30. Fancied a wee night cap but the bar was closed.
Clean, extremely comfortable room, great breakfast, helpful staff and close to all amenities.

Pillows to soft ,I didn't sleep well due to this however firmer Pillows are available on request.

Food quality has gone really down and over priced, never had a bad meal until our recent stay and they made the staff take off her service charge (which was optional anyway) when we complained. Spent £80 on three drinks, two starters which were supposed to charcuterie board but was just cheap Salami and 5 slices of pickled cucumber. A pizza and chips, salad and chips which were burnt on top. We feed back about the food and got complimentary breakfast which is a bonus but wasn't the point in feedback. Really gutted as had good food here previously. Pillows are too soft they gave us neck ache, just go down to nothing when lying one them.
Rooms clean, bed comfortable lovely staff.

The scrambled eggs available in the tray looked like they were made in microwave - however I had poached egg made to order so was very happy about that. The car park was full and is not free off charge which I only realised when we got to the property. To pay £25 a day is quite a lot too.
The breakfast - great value for money - the choice, pancakes were a nice touch, and the eggs were made to order by attentive staff. We loved it! The staff overall was the highlight of the stay - Hilton York has the most caring and friendly staff with high end customer service skills. Alex and others were fantastic in the breakfast room, the bar staff couldn’t be nicer, even the cleaners were happy to say hello and been friendly.

Breakfast. Excellent range on offer, easily accessed and well laid out. We found everything enjoyable and high quality, however, the items in the cooked breakfast, beans, bacon, diced potatoes, scrambled eggs, all to be poorly cooked with no seasoning in cooking process. This made them bland and tasteless, we feel this small point quite important to raise, the difference between simply cooking something and producing a piece of food that you can eat and one you enjoy tasting.
Excellently situated in York for access to the majority of what this beautiful city has to offer. Welcoming friendly staff, nothing was to much trouble.
