Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Very minor thing, but given that they popped in to make the bed and clean each day, it would be nice if they'd provided more toilet paper
The breakfast is exceptional. Roger has a really good selection of nutritious choices, including catering for different dietary requirements. Some cooked breakfasts can often be very oily but this is not the case here and was very well-balanced and beautifully presented with care taken over it. The bed was also very comfortable! It's a really great location.

Dinner was a bit expensive, but the quality was really good.
The facilities were really good, breakfast was delicious and the bedroom/bathroom was super clean and cozy. It was a wonderful area to hike and I have enjoyed it a lot. The owners were absolutely fantastic people, super kind! However I thought dinner was a bit expensive, but it did taste amazing!

The hosts were friendly and welcoming. They even had a Happy Birthday banner in the room, that was a nice touch. I didn't stay for breakfast so asked for a takeaway breakfast sandwich, and they kindly made me one. I would stay there again 🙂

I have a very enjoyable stay at the Cables. The bed was very comfortable and the cooked breakfast was lovely. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. I will definitely stay there again

It was March the weather was English and not everywhere was open!
Went for a couple of nights with my dad who won't do a cottage! Oh and my dog! Lovely and quiet location, really nice hosts and very welcoming. Room was really comfortable with everything you could need. Very delicious breakfast!

The central heating radiator was scorching to the touch and although I turned it down as far as it would go, it only cooled down when it went off later at night and the heated towel rail pumped out a lot of heat too. Consequently the room was far to hot and I had to sleep with the windows open, which I don’t mind but being in a main road there was lots of traffic noise until about midnight and then starting up again around 6am.
It was easy to find and I could park off road. The bed was a king and was very comfortable. There was a good selection of drinks in the room and a fridge with milk and water in. Breakfast was delicious. The host was amenable and friendly. I had some work to do and was able to sit at a desk for that. I was only there one night but would recommend it for any length of stay.

a few dusty areas. cobwebs in some areas. not the best insulated room(mostly due to the age of the house and the time when staying being the beginning of March). cups and spoons were not all properly clean.
breakfast was great. bed was large and comfy. great view through the front window (note: other rooms might vary). very cozy room (old cottage style room like staying at my grand parents house). great hospitality and service from the owners.

My room was very cold. About 63 degrees even with the heating turned up. Although it was a very cold night

Nothing not to like
The property was in a prime location so it was easy to enjoy the surroundings and still have a base close by. The hosts were exceptionally accommodating, friendly and very personable. The property itself, including the facilities inside the room, were above and beyond what was expected for the price I paid. Lovely house, lovely food and overall a lovely experience.

The hosts was really polite and helpful. The room and all the facilities was immaculate. We was made to feel really welcome. Loved the little touches in the room especially the robe and towel for the hot tub. The room was decorated really nicely.

The owners are absolutely the most hospitable people I have ever met. The bed was comfortable, clean and very quiet. The breakfast was beautiful, all home made produce and cooked perfectly. The service is so personal you will feel right at home. I would highly recommend this B and B for a quiet relaxing warm and friendly stay in the beautiful town of Matlock.
