Bed frame was broken - one bed knob missing and bar at end of bed missing. The room required a good Dusting but apart from that was very clean and tidy. Metal bed frame which squeaks loudly every time you roll over in the night.

Stayed in room 1 - Thomas Percy which had decor, comfy bed' nice pillows, clean shower room.the room was warm and cosy.

Better quality coffee and hot chocolate would have been nice. It was noisy until late but that’s to be expected of a room above a pub.

I liked the decor and it was a lovely comfortable room. Ideal location.

The lack of hot water which meant we couldn't wash properly was a real disappointment, staff didn’t seem interested when advised.

The location was perfect, the styling of the hotel was as expected, room was excellent too.

Room was small compared to the other 4 poster rooms. The lining and towels had holes. There had been a leak on the ceiling the stain was still there, it could have been painted over.

Missed some toiletries in the bathroom. Unclear reception area, beside the pub’s toilet which makes check in a bit peculiar.

Location is excellent. The suite is really big, with a comfortable bed and sofas. The staff was nice and very attentive despite how busy they were. Mind your head if you are tall though! We will repeat for sure!

Firstly, be aware when booking the four poster double room that you won’t necessarily be getting the room you think you are. The pictures all show a larger room which overlooks the Minster, and even specifies ‘landmark view’ in the room details, BUT you may well get the smaller room which overlooks the courtyard, aka the noisy pub beer garden! I guess they get away with calling this a ‘landmark view’ because apparently it overlooks the actual cottage where Fawkes was born, but I don’t know which part that was supposed to be. Pack light or bring a wheelie bag, because the nearest car parks are about a 15 minute walk away. The pub is very popular, and was packed from the afternoon right through the evening. There’s no door separating the noisy pub from the stairs leading up to the rooms, so all the pub noise comes up the stairs, plus the double whammy of noise from the beer garden if you get the room I did. No chance of getting any sleep until the pub shuts at 11pm or 12am depending on the day. Then the cleaners start noisily vacuuming and banging about in the corridor at about 7.15. It’s an old building with gaps under the doors and bare wood floors everywhere, so all the sounds really carry. That said, I would still recommend this place, just book direct and be careful about what room you get!

The location is unbeatable; bang in the middle of York, no more than 15 minutes walk from all the major attractions and the Minster is right opposite. The history and vintage of the building is a big selling point for me as a bit of a Guy Fawkes nerd. The pub is very authentic and cosy and the place has been kept largely original and decorated in keeping with the age. The lantern lit restaurant has a nice vibe and the food is decent pub grub, if a bit pricy for what it is. Bed was decently comfortable and room clean, although the grubby looking beige sofa was out of place and needs a cover or replacing.

Literally couldn’t sleep. It was so noisy. Although it’s not the hotels fault that the noise was because of rude people but it was still single glazed and the windows didn’t shut properly. When the bar has cleared out the staff were noisy clearing up.

Breakfast was lush. The hotel was quirky.

I did find the Guy Fawkes room to be a little noisier than I expected with the music from the courtyard, but it wasn't too bad once I shut all the doors. It's be expected when attached to a pub. I do think it'd be good to be informed of the courtyard noise when booking, just in case noise is an issue for some. It wasn't an issue for me but I could see it being one for some people :)

Amazing character, I loved the decor, and the Fawkes theme was extra appealing as a history grad. Amazing location and very accommodating staff. Easy check in and check out.
