Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaAs a western traveller, these are my thoughts. For the bathroom sinks to the cleaning area, I would have liked towel hangers closer to the door. So after cleaning off, you would be able to grab for a clean towel before exiting the cleaning area and keeping water a little better contained. For the doors leading to the bath, I would have put a door stop or some to keep the door open while moving around after cleaning. For the meals, I would offer an option for deciding what days you wanted to have them and bill for the meals eaten. For our stay, we had to leave before breakfast was served on the last day and having to pay for a meal we couldn't enjoy was a little difficult to swallow. As a traditional room, every detail made you feel like you were living in the past, unfortunately this included the wifi with only one room actually having semi stable access. Maybe this is a nit picky thing, but having web access for planning and coordinating the trip would really go a long way to making this experience a 11 out of 10.
We stayed in the Kangetsu Japanese styled room with outdoor hotspring tub. We paid the additional fee to include breakfast and dinners. The shower (cleaning area) was wonderful and the view and location of the outdoor soaking tub was delightful. The bedroom setup was interesting as the beds were provided on frames versus being directly on the floor as would be traditional. This was no problem for us as we just moved furniture to accommodate the traditional sleeping style. We loved the decor and especially the tatami room. The meals were fantastic and reflected a nightly traditional feast. Breakfast also exceeded our expectations and we were never left hungry after any provided meal. The staff had functional Japanese, so 90% of patient Americans can enjoy experiencing a taste of Japanese traditionalism. Our meal service staff were entertaining and delightful. They really impressed us with every aspect they detailed.

New ZealandThe location felt a little out of the way but easily walkable from the station and was to be expected.
Authentic traditional Japanese style accommodation. The room came with yukatas which the staff helped us wear correctly. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The outdoor onsen was relaxing. It had a nice vibe and breakfast was enjoyable.

Service was excellent. From the time we came, check in was quick, till the time we left : prompt shuttle service and bowing as a sign of warm hospitality by staff when we left. Open air Onsen upstairs was really relaxing In room dinner and breakfast was amazing. We were worried there wasn’t enough food for our always hungry teens but the little tasty dishes was more then sufficient. The presentation was also awesome as they served it in your room. We were looking for a traditional and non modern in room dining and sleeping ryokan experience and this place certainly met all expectations.

SingaporeThe room was great however we were expecting another kind of view. Nevertheless, it was spacious for all of us to enjoy. In-room dining was a little misleading though as we all thought it would be delivered to our room instead of us going to a private dining room for our meals. The meal experience could have been procedural (course by course) instead of being all served at a go.
The onsens (indoor and outdoor) were wonderful in the cold weather. The room (Kangetsu) was huge to cater for 5 adults and 1 kid. The dinner was a spread in a private dining room.

IMPORTANT: If the mixed reviews for this ryokan confuse you: Your experience will vary EXTREMELY depending on your chosen room plan, as there are multiple hotels listed here together. Incredible food! (Not for picky eaters though) Incredible service! Close to the station! (and shuttle service available) Onsen! Huge room!

CanadaWe loved the onsen. There is an open air bath on the roof that was really great and overlooked some mountains. There was also an indoor one (one for men, one for women). The water was really comfortable to soak in after a day of hiking in Hakone. We enjoyed the yukata in our rooms as well as the futon, tea, and snacks. Overall, this was the highlight of our honeymoon. Room was really large.

AustraliaThe outdoor onset area is a bit small.
The traditional tatami room was so comfortable and sound blocked that I enjoyed the simplicity and design. The staff were very helpful. The hotel offered shuttle bus to the nearby train station in the morning, which is particularly helpful when you are leaving for other destination with lots of baggage. This was my first time to try the traditional hot spring, luckily not many people using the onsen, so didn't feel too embarrassed without any clothes. I love the JP pajamas.
