Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaEven though all three pools were open, the pool was very crowded and there were children in the pool who were bumping into and splashing the adults without apologizing. We understand that this is not the fault of the hotel but it kept us from having the enjoyable and relaxing time at the pool that we were expecting. We also wished that there were more umbrellas to provide shade.
The room and bathroom were very nice and the beds were very comfortable - we all got a good night's sleep! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our brunch at the Limewood Bar and Restaurant was amazing and so was the view from our table.

United States of AmericaStaff seemed like they were struggling, I felt a bit like I was bothering them whenever I needed something. This started at the valet and continued to the front desk, bellhop etc. I wish the GM could stay at the Chateau Marmont in LA so they could learn what true hospitality is, and bring it back to the Claremont.
Gorgeous grounds and hotel

United States of AmericaThe food at the Limewood restaurant and room service are unfortunately fair at best. Food presentation and attention to detail are lackluster.

United KingdomVery limited facilities no pool due to construction etc but no discount offered. Priority given to function guests. They charged an additional $45 per night to park my hire car doubling its rental cost!! I asked when booking, for the bath version of my room but got a shower one despite being told at check-in by a nice young lady that they had got me a bath version. The next day a very blunt different woman told me that I couldn’t have the bath version until 4 days into my stay and I would have to pay and additional $90 a night to get it!!! Didn’t bother.
Brilliant location, food in restaurant exceptional as were the restaurant staff. Fantastic view of the Bay and City from my room.

United States of AmericaThis is just not a high end hotel, at all. The interiors are sad in the spaces I saw, especially our room. Worn out furniture, a weird combination between traditional and institutional. We had a view room and everything was oriented away from the view - I sat on the windowsill to enjoy it. There was a bizarre super cheap black plastic analog alarm clock on the bedside table that didn't work. It, like most of the art and furniture, looked like it was from Target. No offense to Target but not what I expect at the Fairmont. Check in was a bit of a mess. It was unclear where to stand to wait, and maybe it was just bad luck but everyone ahead took forever. We were told there was a QR code in the room that would have hotel info and in-room dining menu. They only have in-room dining for very limited hours during breakfast and dinner, which we learned when we tried to order after traveling all day. Provisions, the coffee shop, closes at 3:30. However, the very weird app seems to allow you to place a pick up order from there, but then it crashed so I went down to see that it was, indeed, closed. No minibar in the room or any snacks. I was told that the restaurant was open so I went there, sat at the bar and looked at the menu. Staff sort of looked at me oddly but no one came to help. I said I wanted to place an order to go and was told I had to get up, walk 8 feet to a specific place in the middle of the bar (no one was at that spot - I had to walk to place it with the same person). Once I said, well, I'd like a drink AND on order to go, they decided to oblige and they walked all the way down the bar to me to take my order. We did eventually order room service dinner and the options are wildly limited. The Spa, something that you would think would be a feature, given it's in the name, only offers treatments Friday to Sunday. We also paid $25 for parking. This building is gorgeous and it could be amazing, but it's just not even close.
The Club facilities were beautiful. Immaculate and really well equipped. Provisions was also lovey and a great asset, if only it were open just a little later. Staff was friendly.

United States of AmericaThat we only stayed one night on this visit. ;-)
We arrived about 2.5 hours before an event we were attending at the Chabot Science Center (NASA Ames Researcher Anniversary Gala event 3/31) and Effie checked us in. She greeted us warmly and we returned a happy greeting. When we asked her how her day was going, she was happy that we were so happy. She was kind enough to add our stay to our Accor account so we'd get the credit. We always stay at the Claremont and she was very happy that we returned. We had booked a Junior Suite, and Effie said that the room didn't have the best view. She was super excited that a Signature Bay View Suite was available and offered us the upgraded room for a fraction of the full cost (since we already paid for the junior suite). She also offered us a late check out (1pm)! When we arrived at our room, Effie called us to see how we liked it and offered her services if we needed anything. Effie had insisted we come down to the champaign reception (daily @ 5pm) and we had a glass before heading out to our Gala event. Next morning, we had a relaxing brunch and enjoyed the perfectly sunny day on the balcony, overlooking the Bay/San Francisco. The Claremont is always a lovely stay and we look forward to returning very soon!

United States of AmericaThere is insufficient parking. I stayed at the hotel for a company Christmas party. I was really fortunate that I arrived early, as I was able to find a parking space (though not without difficulty). my colleagues who arrived later had a very difficult time finding parking, some of them circling the parking lots for quite some time. I only have one other mild complaint. At a hotel as nice as the Claremont, I would have expected a higher quality robe and towels in my room. I found them to be stiff and not very soft. Not a big deal, but I would recommend an upgrade.
It’s a beautiful, well-maintained, historical building that has retained its historical feel, but with modern furnishings. There’s an unconceited elegance to the hotel that makes it a very comfortable place to stay.

United States of AmericaTheir Limewood restaurant at the Clairemont hotel was horrible experience. When we called the restaurant to make a reservation, we were sent to their website, but the Open Table link for reservations was broken. For days I contacted the Clairemont hospitality service and they told me they would deal with it, but they never did. My wife & kids were finally able to get reservations using the Open Table app. The day before our stay, my daughter's three kids developed fevers and she had to cancel her trip to Berkeley. The restaurant charged $35.00 per person ($175 total) to cancel her reservations. When we were at the restaurant, many tables were open the entire time we were there, so they didn't lose any business because my daughter cancelled. They just ripped us off. We will never stay at the Clairemont hotel again!

United States of AmericaAwful value. $800 a night for an experience that's worth less than 1/10th that. The building itself is archaic, literally over 100 years old which means that basic things that you'd expect to function in a hotel were completely disfunctional including the thermostat which kept our room freezing cold the first night resulting in me getting sick and missing the majority of the time I'd planned on spending with my aging parents. We literally had to call the building engineer every time we wanted to change the temperature a few degrees. The room was tiny even though we paid for a Junior Suite, the carpeting was filthy, the bed was small, and the internet would cut out for half an hour at a time. The nicest part of the hotel is the lobby and it's not even that nice. I can't believe that Fairmont out their name on this property. I will never stay at this property again.
Service was friendly, that's the only positive that comes to mind
