Tavira is a very relaxed and beautiful place to visit, the atmosphere was friendly and there were lots of restaurants for all budgets. We were there at the end of April and the temperature was ideal for us, in the low twenties. The beaches were easy to get to and huge so even in high season I think they would be fine. You are a short train ride from Faro and there are other lovely villages nearby to visit. Plenty of walks and bike tracks for the more active mostly all on the flat so not too energetic! This is a resort for couples and families rather than those looking for lively night life but for us that was a positive!

Tavira is definitely one of the most picturesque and unspoilt towns in the Algarve. So far, it has escaped the mass building of apartments that now plague other places. But, unless you have a car, I'd recommend staying in the centre! Local transport is not very convenient, though trains to other towns are good. There's lots going on, though perhaps more geared towards adults than youngsters! Plenty of restaurants and cafés and the Clube de Tavira is a good spot for some local jazz on a Thursday. Bear in mind it's not directly on the coast - you need to take ferries to the islands nearby, but that's fun if the weather's good. Not so much if it's wet and windy 🙄. Bike rental is another good option. Another plus is being so near Spain - a trip to Seville is only a couple of hours away! My tip - if you're not with a car, don't stay on the outskirts, unless you just want to be by the pool all day! It's a long and boring walk into town! Do visit the little olive producer just out of town. At time of my visit, nearly the whole town was undergoing roadworks which meant half the streets were closed to traffic and all the cobbles and paving were up, making for dusty and uneven surfaces. Just beware!

Nice town in a very concise area.
Nice town in a very concise area. Catching boat from the downtown dock is better value for the trip to visit the beautiful "Ilha de Tavira Beach" (Tavira Island Beach), worth spending time there. Don't drive into the city, either walk or catch a Uber. Too much traffic and the endless road construction works mess everything out. Look it up on Google before you head that way as there are many more activities you can enjoy.

We stayed for one week but really could have stayed longer, but a week was enough for us to feel relaxed, enjoy the beach and the surrounding areas. Tavira is a pretty historic town with lots of amenities , great restaurants, bars and cafes with tourists but not tacky! and lots of day trips available. It’s a great walking and cycling area And the beach is truly magnificent. .

Tavira will typically draw those, who seek the architecture, history - it's idyllic and peacefull setting; and the beach second. Tavira has a trainstation,, so you are free to come and go without the hassle of traffic and foreign signs. This town will not attract the crowds who seek the plastic pleasures of Albufeira.

The best of Algarve !
The best of Algarve ! Near the mountains - several beautiful beaches; beautiful and safe city ; excellent restaurants - including an excellent 1 star Michelin restaurant - that you can walk to confortably
the history of this beautifully restored property! the rooms were beautifully appointed with the most comfortable bed and luxurious sheets we’ve slept in during our Portugal travels. our room , facing the back of the property had a private pool which was absolutely worth it! the breakfasts were decadent and the unique touch of fresh baked cake to self serve any time was wonderful. we were walking steps to everything in Tavira. The handwritten welcome note is a small example of why Colegio is a cut above !
The hotel was stunning, beautiful artwork everywhere. Mário was really helpful in providing local food recommendations and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great, my children loved cake for breakfast!
There was nothing to fault about the hotel at all, the small pool made a great “plunge pool” as it was unsurprisingly not warm in February!
Tavira is a lovely town for exploring this part of Portugal, with Fuzeta and Olhao not far too.
Could not recommend this hotel enough to anyone.
The hotel is perfectly located in Tavira for restaurants, shops and the boat to the beach and the room gave me everything I needed for one night. The bed was really comfortable and the room was clean. The bathroom had a walk in shower and the towels were very good quality. There were lots of options at breakfast: oat milk as well as normal milk, lots of different coffees and teas, different cereals and breads as well as scrambled eggs.
This is a real gem in the Algarve! We definitely enjoyed it and would come back in the future! From concept to execution, everything is just top notch! Nicely decorated, little touches everywhere (water with various herbs provided, tea and fresh fruits, not to mention the outstanding breakfast), great staff service. Sure, this is not your average 4* hotel because it's actually much better than a hotel.
Amazing lofted room with tons of space - very comfortable, beautifully decorated and immaculately cleaned. Access to 2 beautiful semi private patios. Location was incredibly convenient! Staff was extremely kind and helpful with restaurant and activity recommendations/room and parking logistics. Our favorite room that we stayed in while in Portugal!! 10/10 recommendation!
The hotel was a in great old historic building. Loved the windows that opened up. Our room was very clean. It overlooked the river Gilão and ferry access, if you wanted to go to the beach. Many restaurants were nearby and walkable. The hotel breakfast buffet was decent. Sweet hotel and walkable town with talented street musicians. I'm sure there's more to explore.
Friendly staff and efficient check-in. Lovely room, good size. Quiet with blackout curtains. Balcony and fridge. Beds clean and comfy. Kettle and tea bags in room (unusual for Portugal), but no milk supplied. Large bathroom with walk in shower.
Breakfast 7.30-10.30 - good selection of hot and cold food.
Very cozy and clean place. The location is very nice, extremely quiet and, at the same time, near the city center and main attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful in providing guidance to visit the city. I definitely recommend for a get away in Portugal.
The people are so nice in Portugal, they love to help. I thought I was lost but wasn't, and asked for help, A lady spoke to my host in Portuguese and pointed to my apt, , just across the street, and the host was standing there waving his hand.
Excellent breakfast selection and staff very welcoming, helpful and attentive. Hotel within a short walking distance of local restaurants and amenities. Tavira is a good base from which to explore the Eastern Algarve.
We enjoyed getting the ferry to the island to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Breakfast was adequate with plenty of choices. Pool bar was great, good cocktails and snacks. Hotel in quiet location away from town.
It is very beautiful And tasteful, like a 'boutique' style hotel.
The pool and surrounds are lovely.
Nice simple breakfast on the terrace.
Easy access to Tavira and all the restaurants to eat
This was the best accommodation I stayed in while in Portugal it was immaculate with a great outdoor space and fantastic location it was very well looked after.
