The place is amazing -- from the reception of the friendly staff, to the immaculate rooms and the super hip vibe, this place oozes coolness, and also makes you feel comfortable even if you're not into that scene. The staff really makes you feel at home -- we visited during Christmas time in Funchal, which is a big deal in Madeira, and stayed with our 4 year old daughter. The rooftop is almost like Funchal's premiere loungy destination, with music, drinks, and small bites. We spent 13 nights in Madeira, and this was far and away the best place and best value for money spent. You will love your stay here. This place is special.

Everything perfect: place, food, premises. Very nice, comfortable rooms, beautiful gardens, big, nice swimming pools, comfortable sun beds, amazing views. We visited three restaurants in the hotel, food was very good everywhere. Nice Spa.

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Casa das Proteas is located at Estrada das Covas nº8, São Jorge, Madeira Island, 50 km from Funchal. The location is excellent as a starting point for several hikes.

Although in the meantime the hotel is so well known & always fully booked, the staff is still amazing friendly & takes time for a small chat. What I like most is the trust they bring towards the guests, no strict rules like pool opening hours & it‘s always quiet, people do not abuse it. Also the honesty bar where it is possible to take out in trust is great! The hotel is of high quality but not new any more & for me it‘s sympathetic that it doesn’t shine & glance in luxury, it‘s still familiar, beautiful garden & peace. I love this place!

Great location and the beach was amazing. The Marrocan restaurant was so good and the staff was amazing.

Great room, great staff, beautiful location. We were only there for a night but wish we had stayed longer. The staff were incredible and gave us welcome and parting gifts. The view of the ocean from our room was incredibly. Really enjoyed our stay here.
