Our weekend was a blast! We used the Rick Steves' guide to help us decide what to do, and enjoyed everything very much. A walk through the old city is a MUST. The Imperial palace was a unique palace with lots of history. I wasn't aware of Nuremburg's particular ties to the Nazi Party, so that was interesting to learn about. The Toy Museum and the bunkers under the city were both totally worth the money to check out. Dinner overlooking the river at Heilig-Geist-Spital was delicious. It's spargel season, so we were sure to order some. We loved our lunch at the Bratwursthausle - fabulous wurst, potato salad, sauerkraut, pretzels and beer.
Great city full of history. Try some Nuremberg bratwurst at the many beer gardens in the old town. Getting around on public transportation is easy and affordable. Lots of history WWII places to visit, including the documentation center and the Palace of Justice.
Nuremberg has so much history as the un-official capitol of the Holy Roman Empire and of course WWII. Everything is a short train ride or walk away and public transportation can't be beat. Great food and shopping. My advice for shoppers is to not discount the side streets. Great deals along with additional eateries that you would not otherwise have seen. We only stayed a few days as part of our vacation but would have preferred to spend at least two more days there. Franconian food is delicious. But at the same time, there are McDonalds, KFC etc everywhere for when your children get cranky! The people are friendly and true to Franconian roots. You will see the Red and White flag everywhere almost as if they are longing to be a free state again. Really is a great place. Don't forget to spin the ring 3 times and make a wish!! Lastly, you can arrange day trips inside the city or to other destination in Bavaria fairly cheap. Munich is not too far and neither is Rothenburg Ob. De Tabor. Both are must sees!
Nuremberg is a city well-worth visiting. There is a lot to see, many museums to visit and numerous parks or green spots to stroll at. I liked the Old Town a lot. Sightseeing-wise I think the Toy Museum was my favourite, thou the Nuremberg churches are also impressive. Another must-see is Museum Tucherschloss und Hirsvogelsaal - a 16th-century mansion. Also, travelling around the city is really easy: you can choose the city transport, the city bike, or just walk as most things you will want to see are within the walking distance from each other.
The town is well connected with public transportation network. There are some beautiful sights right in the center, but for me it was also very nice just to walk through the center and feel the vibe of the town. There are also many shopping possibilities and many places to eat well. We ate the typical dishes for this part of Germany, such as sausages and potatoes. The only really disappointing thing about this town was the fact that we were there at the time of COVID-19, so we were not able to visit the Nazi Museum, because of all the restrictions - we would have to wait for several hours just to enter the place, and there were only several small groups in the line before us (but one group has to go in, see the whole place and go out, then the new group can enter), so we just gave it up. In my opinion, these measures are slightly exaggerated. On the other places it is differently organized, with keeping the safety distance, hand disinfection, mouth-nose covering etc.
All shops are closed on sundays, so plan your trip accordingly. Old burg on the hill is nice from outside, inside is rather empty, but it has a nice view. Behind burg there is a nice restaurant, hexenhausle. Uf you going ti vidit Zeppelinfeld, male sure you have good shoes because there is a lot of broken glas on the floor.
