If I had seen a picture if the cabin I would not have booked the pictures shown in the booking site mostly show larger cabins and ones on the outside edge if the site where we were they were too close together and you could hear every sound any neighbour made

The old town and the port area of La Rochelle are amazing to explore with so much history. There are lots of boat trips available to the islands around La Rochelle and Ile de Re is well worth a visit. There are bars and restaurants throughout the town to meet everybody's choice for food and atmosphere.

Good location for birding, cycling, bus into La Rochelle and driving to other destinations. Chalet was too small for my liking and boxed in by other chalets but did have a nice veranda. Swimming Pool was excellent. There appeared to be a lot of people staying who were working in the area - this led to a lot of early morning noise not expected from other holidaymakers.

The old port is very lovely. The restaurants in La Rochelle were quite disappointing as the quality of the food was poor. Much more was expected regarding their fresh fish etc, being a coastal town. The coffee was not good. I have travelled extensively in France and have to say that as beautiful as La Rochelle is, the restaurants are quite mediocre and are poor value for money. Part of experiencing different regions is enjoying not only the different landscapes, architecture and culture but the food so for me this is important. Ile de Ré which is linked to La Rochelle via a bridge had incredible ice-creams and sorbets and highly recommend trying out their multitude of wonderful flavour combinations at La Martinière ! Once again, however, were met with very mediocre quality food. I am by no means expecting michelin star quality ...I am simply referring to good, locally produced and prepared food for all to enjoy! If staying in La Rochelle, a car is not needed as everything is within walking distance and pedestrian friendly. It is also a bicycle friendly area !

Ile De Re was the best beach experience of our lives. Street shops, restaurants and Patisseries were great and the Notre Dame Basilica was very impressive. Our first visit and worthy of a return trip!

Travelled to La Rochelle by train from Nantes, 1hr 48mins direct. City is very active over the weekend, with music and wide variety of restaurants. Bus day trip to Saint Martin de-Re Island at 2.50Euros a must, from bus station located behind the railway station access via the walk over. Walk along the southern promenade with a picnic, as all the locals participate during the summer evenings.
