Located in Waigani in Port Moresby, The Stanley Hotel & Suites is connected to the shopping complex Vision City Mega Mall, giving guests direct access to a bank, nightclub, cinema, supermarket and... Ideally located, near the airport and with free shuttles there and back. Great breakfast and other buffets. Fabulous barber shop with friendly staff and economical prices there. So many things for varying tastes. A coffee bar for those who like Starbucks-like machine coffee and snacks. A super drinks lounge with (usually) rugby playing on massive screens, but, if you don’t like rugby, you can still enjoy an intimate drink in the place. Spa was great. Pool was great.

Hilton Port Moresby Hotel and Residences, a precinct showcasing the lifestyle and heritage of Papua New Guinea, its people and its culture. Loved everything moment of my stay😊🙌👏would definitely recommend this place for comfort and enjoyment
Despite the various overhyped negativity painted by the media daily, the city is actually safe, friendly and can be enjoyable. Accommodation-wise, for high budget travelers, Stanley Hotel, Airways, and Hilton are recommended. Loloata Island resort is also a luxurious choice. Medium ranged budget travelers can opt for Ela Beach Hotel, Gateway Hotel & Apartments, Holiday Inn apartments or one or the premier rooms. Airways, Hilton and Stanley hotels have delicious menus of local and international dishes served on breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets daily. As well as that, the Vision City mega mall, Rangeview mall, or Waterfront or Foodworld shops have variety of fresh and processed food choices available for those that prefer cooking their own meals. The Boroko or Gordans main markets are your choice for fresh local produce. Local taxis are generally preferred cheap mode of transport from point, otherwise it is recommended to get a hire car and driver (if you are not familiar with the city roads). A general Google search can list down various hire car services. Depending on type of vehicle, daily rates average around AUD$150/day for a decent car. Again, despite the continuous bad portrayal of the city and its residents, it is in fact much more safer than assumed. The locals tend to not bother tourists/visitors as much, however there are a few bad apples here and there (as you would expect from a rapidly growing city rife with uncontrolled urban drift and population growth), hence to be on the safe side, avoid walking on foot around specific suburbs (Erima, Gordons, Morata) at night.
It would be good if breakfast was included given the high rates charged for the rooms per night. I was disappointed breakfast wasn't included with the accommodation. I mostly likely to book in a hotel that includes accommodation with breakfast next time I am in POM
Did not venture out of VC area this time around but Port Moresby has such Vibrant colours, the selection of bilums and meri-blouses, food and fruits and the availability of electronics all under one roof - VC Mall
The city is overpopulated, and the government has failed to maintain any sense of order. Driving through traffic with limited road options is chaotic and frustrating. There were four road accidents within the week I spent there. EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE, no kidding.
Act like PNG locals. Don't be afraid to mingle and ask questions. I walked from Crown Hotel (CH) to Ela Beach (EB) and APEC Haus and the people I met that evening were very friendly and happily doing their own stuff, like walking up and down the small hill between CH and EB.
This is rated as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. It is NOT set up for tourists. The only tourist souvineer shop I could find was on the way out at the airport. Everyone I talked to told me to only travel with a reputable guide and certainly not to travel alone, especially at night. Prices are very high for tourist the prices are set for people dealing with the natural resorcses, gold, oil, and raee earth minerals, which i guess they have plenty of. If you go as a tourist it is best to go on a group package. I personally had no problems I had a great escort.
