We had a miscommunication about our arrival time and the hotel was closed and locked when we arrived at 10pm. A friendly man from a gas station across the street helped us greatly by contacting the owner who came at 10:45 to let us in. We were planning to spend the night at the local train station and we very relieved and grateful to be able to spend the night at the hotel.

There was 50s Americana all over the place! Ingrid was extremely kind in arranging to collect me from the railway station because it was raining in Kil. Ingrid couldn’t have done enough for me, and I would definitely stay here again next time I’m in Kil.

I booked one night in a cabin to extend our stay in Karlstad – to be honest I wish I had booked this place for all the three days we were there. The cabin was surprisingly large, immaculately clean, well equipped and the kids loved having their own rooms. It was the clear winner of all the places we stayed on this trip, and the coastline within a couple of minutes' walk is lovely with several wild swimming locations. The large terrace with table and chairs was super, too.
