This is a challenge to answer. The Scotch Arms is a lovely 1600s building(s) that was incredibly well restored. (My partner is an architect, and he said the owners spared no expense in the restoration.) It was a delight to be in such a beautiful treasure of a B&B. The question is difficult to answer because complimenting the wonderful physical establishment is, Dianne, the warm, friendly and knowledgeable owner/host. She gives everyone a warm welcome. On this trip we are staying at 7 hotels/B&Bs, and the Scotch Arms stays in our minds as one of the best on this 20 day trip.

Fantastic room, great amenities like tea and coffee. Norma and Colin were such accommodating hosts, especially given we arrived much later than intended. The food was fantastic too, best meal I had along the entire Pennine Way! Looking forward to booking a trip back in the next summer season.

Friendly and helpful hosts, a lovely clean family room with a bath and shower, the best breakfast and excellent decor.

We loved our stay. Serene is the word I would use. Grounds were well kept and beautiful. From our dinner table, we looked out upon the gardens and the river. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Loved having drinks before dinner and chatting with other guests.
