Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

We had a wonderful experience in North Sumatra thanks to Sumatra ethical expeditions and their crew. We spent two nights in the lodge and we did the 2D1N trek with our amazing guides Pika, Tenjong and Imuh. We will be forever grateful to them for taking such good care of us, for teaching us so much about the jungle and the animals, and for being so kind. I definitely recommend the experience. We were able to spot over 15 orangutans, many monkeys, including the Thomas leaf monkey and some gibbons, as well as hornbills (similar to toucans). The lodge is amazing, with a wonderful view of the nature surrounding this area. They provided us with transport service (shared or private) from Medan airport for a very good price. Breakfast is good as well as the dinner, all of it at great prices. The atmosphere is very calm and welcoming. Many thanks for such an unforgettable experience!!!

Hub Tata Guesthouse er nýlega enduruppgert gistihús í Tuk Tuk og er með garð. Gististaðurinn er með útsýni yfir vatnið. Þegar veður er gott er gestum velkomið að sitja úti. Lovely and cozy guesthouse. Fantastic food with great view to the lake. Very friendly and helpful staff. We would definitely come again.

JUNGLE LIFE GUEST HÚSIÐ - Gönguferðir og samgöngur Only Book With Us er staðsett í Bukit Lawang og er með sundlaug með útsýni yfir ána. The owner was super helpful and was eager to answer any questions through WhatsApp from the moment we booked. Getting a trek was super easy through him once we arrived and the trek was amazing. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and seemed to always be the first to spot an orangutan out of nowhere. Example: "I smell orangutan poo. Give me one second." Then runs off for two minutes and beckons us over pointing up at the tree to a mama and baby very early on. The bed in our room was amazing. Like a firm memory foam. Same for the pillow. For me, that is an ideal sleep. And the location was great. It was right in the middle of the village, so it was about the same distance left or right to the end of the strip. Can't beat the price.

Toba Boi er staðsett í Tuk Tuk á Sumatra-svæðinu og er með verönd og fjallaútsýni. Gistirýmið er með svalir og útsýni yfir vatnið. Gististaðurinn býður upp á útsýni yfir hljóðláta götu. Good host (Dong&Siska) for being so informative on suggesting where to go,where to take a ferry,they also provide bike rental.The room is nice and in front of the stay got a good cafe for me to find for breakfast,lunch or dinner..those solo traveller might like it because the cafe got live band performance twice a week and I didn't mind the noise coming for it honestly because I can still manage to sleep peacefully safe and sound due to the whole day spent moving around the island😂

SeaGate Bungalows í Sabang býður upp á gistirými, einkastrandsvæði, garð og garðútsýni. The hosts, Jujun and Borja are very kind and helpful persons. At the end, it was a bit sad to say goodbye to them. The room was very comfortable, we had everything what we needed. It has a big terrace, big enogh to do yoga or just relax comfortably. Their kitchen is very good, breakfast and dinner are available, but they also made lunch for us the day when we arrived and was very hungry. There are just a few bungalows, it's really cosy and private.

Bua Guest House er staðsett 9,3 km frá Medan Grand-moskunni og býður upp á loftkæld gistirými með verönd. Best part about this place is the hospitality and the atmosphere, the hosts are wonderfully warm and hospitable. The atmosphere is so peaceful and beautiful. Lots of greens and plants around, lovely village like location. You will have a peace of mind here.

Let me stay in a slightly more expensive room inside without paying the difference and got a ride back to the guesthouse from the city center at night. I wasn’t there for long but definitely felt it was a good deal for the price. It is pretty far from the center of butik lawang. You can walk it in 20min or get a tuktuk for 30rp. The walk is nice. You get to see another side to the area.
