Located in Bocas del Toro, a few steps from Bluff, S Boutique Hotel provides accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a shared lounge. The hotel has a terrace and pool views, and guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant or a drink at the bar. Althought S Boutique Hotel wasn't in our plans, we we're beyond glad to experience it. We had a disappointing AirBnB nearby for two nights, which we ended up cancelling, leaving a day early. In this light, we booked S Boutique Hotel and messaged them, letting them know our situation and see if we could at least leave our bags and wait around before check-in. We made it to S around 9am. The first thing that called our attention was the thoughtfulness in design, respecting the natural elements, showcasing beautifully arranged wood, which dominates the landscape, supported by elegantly exposed concrete, all encompassed by the lush greenery around Isla Colon, with tasteful touches of glass, white contrasting pool chair sets, black painted bamboo dividers, etc. But the most striking aspect of S was the warm smile and professional behaviour of Jean. He immediately made us feel welcome, offering us coffee (which, again, comes in beautiful and thoughtful tableware) and check-in us smoothly. His conduct is one of competence, politeness, mixed with gentleness and friendliness, but most noticeably, humbleness and unpretentious, a rare combination we did not encounter much in Panama. Since we didn't had data, we couldn't see that Jean already had replied regarding our bags, reiterating us that the room was ready and just after our coffee, he guided us to it. The room follows the same natural theme. Concrete, white, wood, glass, elegant details in wicker. A citrussy essential oil hit us softly upong entering our room, enhancing our stay even further. Late at night, for some reason, water wasn't coming from the shower. I went down to ask Jean, which, along one of the owners, immediately went and fixed the issue in a matter of minutes. Again, the effectiveness in problem solving along with professionality in the way everyone at S carry themselves speaks highly of not just the Hotel, but the ideas, values and passions that had led this hotel to be made.

The family-friendly restaurant serves African and American dishes, as well as Cajun Creole and Caribbean cuisine. Akwaba lodge is located at the middle of Isla Solarte about a 10 minute boat ride ($10/person) from Bocas del Toro. It is on a hill overlooking the water and Isla Bastimentos Breakfast is included in your stay. Lunch dinner and beverages are available at a very reasonable price. The lodge is an eco style lodge surrounded by jungle. Though there are no hiking trails through the jungle you are serenaded by the sounds of birds. Kayaks, SUP and snorkeling equipment is available for your use. Your host and their children are wonderful and will do anything to make your stay a pleasant and wonderful experience. Things to know, the lodge is off the grid with good WiFi and does not have AC, but we were comfortable with our open windows and ceiling fan. The lodge accepts credit cards, but tours and water taxis are cash only so bring US dollars. Side trips to Red Frog Beach and Green Acres Chocolate are a must. Pack insect repellent and anti-itch cream.

Sally and Mike are absolutely lovely and so helpful (and not to mention, great cooks).

Guests can enjoy international dishes at the restaurant or have a cocktail at the bar. The location is unbeatable, the facilities were beautiful, perfect for a relaxing getaway. We particularly loved the salt water pool, and the sauna/cold plunge combo. The breakfast and food in general was amazing (there are not tons of options on the menu but each meal we ordered was very well executed). We will definitely be back again!

Hostal Hansi is in Bocas del Toro, 17 minutes' walk from El Istmito Beach. It is 50 meters from the docks.

All rooms are private, some have a terrace, TV, air conditioning and hot water.

Couples love the location - rated 9.5 for two-person trips. It’s a nice hostel just next to the docks in Bocas Town so very convenient location, multiple supermarkets around as well as restaurants and all tour operators. Also the local busses around the main island leave from the street behind. The beds are comfy and rooms spacious. No AC in most of Bocas hostels, we had a ceiling fan that didn’t rotate very fast so it got quite humid at times in the room but we had a little balcony to dry our stuff there. There is a common kitchen with good facilities and first time I see the fridges divided into sections by the room numbers, which was amazing. Another guest though still decided to steal our food (caught on security cameras) but the hostel staff handled it fantastically. We also got an extra blanket when requested and wanted to extend our stay with one more night and that was also immediately arranged for us.

With garden views, Carmen's place is located in Bastimentos and has a restaurant, luggage storage space, bar and garden. The property features sea and lake views. The bed and breakfast has family rooms. Everything basically. Carmen, the host, runs more of a community than a bed and breakfast. Very cosy very nice details and she takes a lot of care of her guests! And she is a great cook. Staying for dinner is recommended.
