We liked the spacious rooms, their elegant window dressing, the comfortable bathing and recreational facilities; plenty of highly useful furniture; lovely rear garden with fruit trees; kitchen was light filled with plenty of bench space; enough varied table space in the kitchen, dining and outdoor spaces.
Beds were very comfortable with good bed linen.

United KingdomBeautifully renovated old station with part converted as a bed and breakfast- serve yourself style. Loads of bread, jams etc ,cereals and milk left for us to eat when we wished. Very quiet inside the b and b. comfortable furniture and bed and excellent bathroom. QUirky. Sitting on the platform all alone watching the sun go down was great .

A 'hidden gem' that needs more exposure to people like us from Western Australia. People and place are excellent and a fabulous location for the Rally of the Heartland. Will be back next year.

A pity it was the Adelaide long club weekend.
A pity it was the Adelaide long club weekend. Only the Bon accord was able to provide meals, as well as St Just cafe. The other three pubs were either not opened or not providing meals!
Dont coome during public holidays and if during school holidays, book well in advance!

Nice quiet little township in the area of SA that still...
Nice quiet little township in the area of SA that still supports trees and greenery before going further north where it gets arid. The 'Burra Heritage Passport' aka 'keys to the town' is affordable to just about anyone and would ensure that there is some money for the council to maintain the historical locations. The Bon Accord Museum explained things that you see in the other locations and I loved the mine shaft. The guy looking after it is a real country character with lots of good stories and information, very helpful. I learnt a lot about Australian history and what life was like for settlers during my stay. The more you like reading the information provided, the more you will get out of it. In addition to the self-drive tour in the green booklet, which was nice, the art gallery was worth the visit and the town hall was much more interesting than expected, with lots of great old photos of Burra and written information underneath them. I think there is plenty within the town for a two day stay. In addition, Red Banks Conservation Park is very close to Burra. It is very remote, down a long gravel road and quite barren, with only low shrubs over most of its area, so personally, I would only walk there in cool overcast weather.

An interesting town; we were hoping to do the Historic tour...
An interesting town; we were hoping to do the Historic tour of 9 facilities with key-access but ran out of time. And then we found out that it was going to cost us $30.00 per person, 7 people all going to the same places together, plus a $50.00, obviously returnable, security deposit for the key, so that money went towards dinner at the Burra Hotel. 4 hotels in town, we managed to "try" them all. The ONLY thing lacking in Burra is somewhere that you can easily buy beer, wine & spirits. Yes, you can get these across the bar but a specific outlet would give people a better choice. We were having a beer outside 1 of the hotels, a couple arrived in their 4WD wanting to buy some wine. They went into that hotel & came out empty-handed. We were in the same boat when looking for something specific for someone; it was a "no" across all 4 hotels.

Burra is a town with an amazing mining history.
Burra is a town with an amazing mining history. It is full of houses that are up to 150 years old. When in Burra, buy the Burra Passport from the tourist information centre. It provides access to the main tourist attractions including the mine site, Bon Accord museum, Redruth Gaol and the miner’s dugouts.

Love the history of Burra.
Love the history of Burra. Good shops for such a small country town. Dining was excellent. Information ℹ️ office staff very helpful. Went to all the key sites which is good value. Burra is a must see.
