FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Music, theatre's, great food.

Music, theatre's, great food. Museum and art galleries superb. Mona was interesting. Markets I enjoyed. Good book shop. Did not use my car as I was centrally located. Met some absolutely lovely people. Plenty of kooky cats to hang with, they made me feel 10yrs younger. I loved Hobart

I love Hobart. It's a nice, clean and safe city.

I love Hobart. It's a nice, clean and safe city. There are plenty of bars and restaurants which cater to all tastes. The Japanese Bar Wa Izakaya was my favourite. If you're there on a Saturday, Salamanca Market is a must see. The city itself is close to everything, whether you're going to Mt Wellington, Russell Falls, Richmond, Port Arthur or Bruny Island. I'd also recommend heading down to Franklin to the Wooden Boat Centre, which is one of the only places in the world where you can still learn wooden boat building. As I went to two National Parks (Russell Falls and the Cape Bruny Lighthouse), it was cheaper for me to buy a concession annual pass rather than two separate passes. Overall it was a great trip!

Hobart is lovely city on the banks of the river and it is easy to access and get around. There is lovely mix of historical architecture that either stands alone or is cleverly integrated into the modern. It a reasonable ditance from other places of interest.

Hobart is not a large city but it is a beautiful one.

Hobart is not a large city but it is a beautiful one. It is a place of intimate sophistication with interesting architecture and wonderful expanses of water. The Mona art gallery provides a unique and captivating experience. The building itself is a veritable work of art and visiting it never disappoints. Driving out to the small village of Richmond is most enjoyable. We did not visit Port Arthur on this trip but the convict settlement site takes visitors back to the early days of Australia's white settlement story. A trip up Mount Wellington is also an enriching experience. Hobart is pretty cold in winter but any season in this charming city is one worth experiencing.

Lenna is conveniently located for Salamance Place and Hobart harbour. The rooms are spacious and have all mod cons. The rooms are centered around an atrium which creates a sense of verticalism and airiness. The hotel is a must for architecture buffs as the main building from the 19th century was built in an italianate style which is rare in Tasmania. The public spaces are full of items from that period. Don't forget to climb the stairs all the way up to the small tower with great looks over Hobart harbour.

Excellent location and beautiful historic building on Hobart waterfront close to everything. Booking was easy and the staff very attentive, good communication prior to check in, they even called to make sure we were ok as we were running late driving from Launceston. They arranged rooms at the front of the hotel with lovely views. The provided breakfast was very good and tasty. Our rooms were large and very clean with daily service. The beds were very comfortable and all amenities were of good standard.

Very spacious, modern, clean. Location PERFECT for Salamanca market - virtually just around the corner. All the piers a stones throw from apartment block. Lifts to get you to upper floors. Had an issue with fluctuating prices of unit - which I should have taken up with Booking.com - hotel could not do anything about it. Could have been approx $70 cheaper. Next time I’ll go direct to hotel to book !! I have found my Hobart CBD accomodation for future visits. Highly recommended.

The apartment was good for self catering, very large and modern. We didn't realise that it was right next to the main restaurant area in Hobart, which made it easy to walk along and decide where to eat. The secure parking was worth the small extra fee. To walk into the CBD and waterfront was maybe 20 minutes, or a 3 minute drive. The local supermarket was a short walk.
