We stayed over the Wooden Boat Festival weekend, 3 nights. Glen Derwent was close enough to Hobart to utilise the local bus service , about 30 mins. Service drops you in the local supermarket carpark . As we were unsure as to what parking would be available in the Hobart we chose to bus it, this also allowed us to have a couple of wines whilst dining at the local hotel in New Norfolk after being dropped off. 15 min walk downhill to Glen Derwent after dinner. Did a day trip via car to The Styx, amazing huge old trees. Absolutely breathtaking walk through the trees.
Should be called Derwent Valley Last Resort. No WiFi. Poorly maintained facilities; clean, but quite a few maintenance failings. Sorry to have to give a bad review, but there was just one too many--we don't have that or that doesn't work.
This was just a stopover and we did not get to explore the tourism interests of New Norfolk. It is a beautiful drive to New Norfolk. Not much happening after hours and somewhat difficult to find somewhere to dine.
Loved the antique centre in the old "mental" hospital grounds. Beautiful coffee spot in same grounds. Loved this place. New Norfolk is a great base to go to Hobart, Ross, MONA and other areas. Good stopover if you get the right accomodation.
This was a stopover after visiting Mount Wellington near Hobart and going hiking in the Mount Field National Park near New Norfolk, The next day we were to travel through to Queenstown after a number of stops along the way.
New Norfolk is close enough to Hobart to not be out in the middle of nowhere, but is up in the hills where there is a lovely sense that there is no need to rush, the air is fresh, the Derwent River still in its infancy forms a wonderful centre point, and the people are just nice there. Parts of the town seemed a bit run-down, but maybe it was just the day we were there. Sights to see and things to do around New Norfolk are take a lot longer than just a one-day stay; one leaves with a desire to return there before too long and finish the unfinished.

We were greeted with a warm smile by the owner upon arrival and it set the tone for our short stay. The B&B is located ~5 mins drive from the New Norfolk town centre but was immaculate, cosy and very homely. Breakfast and dinner were lovingly prepared from self-grown or locally sourced produce. Our 3yo son even had the opportunity to hand-feed the sheep and gather chicken eggs which made his day. Thank you Lisa for your hospitality and a memorable time!
