Everything! great location- very central to all we had planned and sensational hosts- Michael & Roberto - so welcoming, friendly, amiable & generous; gave us some great tips on places to visit, best driving routes etc.and both brimming with personality. This gorgeous home was impeccably clean; the room offered beautiful garden views; the bed was supremely comfortable with crisp sheets and very good pillows. A delicious breakfast was provided - expertly cooked and beautifully presented, topped off by fresh roses from the garden each morning. Many thoughtful inclusions made our stay very memorable & comfortable - home made biscuits, relishes, jams, Berry compote, fresh eggs, herbs and vegetables from their garden to an array of quality toiletry products.

Small town, but has everything you need. Big supermarkets, pubs, bottle shops, chemist all amenities. Everything you need for a good stay at one of the many mountain cabins etc. it’s about 30 mins from Hobart and about an hour from the airport - it’s on the other side of Hobart from the airport. You need a car… there is some public transportation but very much for the locals tourists will need their own transport. Most things like port Arthur and cascade or the air walks are an hour to an hour and a half away (so 2 - 3 hrs round trip. Plan ahead. Friendly people. Good option if you don’t want to pay huge amounts in the busy seasons (mainly mofo). Probably best for adults mostly. Not much for the kids, which was perfect for us as everything was very calm.
The hosts Michael and Roberto could not have done more to make our 3days in lockdown more enjoyable The rooms are very clean, modern and well appointed. The garden is delightful…flowers, fruit trees and chickens Breakfast was gourmet!! We’ll be back!!
It was an overnight stay, From Northern Tasmania, on the way to Lake Pedder Wilderness Lodge. We could walk into town for dinner. We could get petrol, a few groceries & a little alcohol the next day, before heading off to our final destination, being Lake Pedder, it was pleasant and stress free. An alternative to overnighting in Hobart….
Loved the drive up the valley towards Westerway, visiting Mt Field NP (Russell falls, Horseshoe falls, Tall Trees), Loved the Bahn Mi from the food van at the Saturday market, good (if expensive) lunch at Agrarian Kitchen Eatery, loved the walk by the river, the Autumnal leaves, the view from Pulpit rock.
New Norfolk is in a pretty location being close to a picturesque river, which you are able to walk beside & up to a cliff for great views. The walk is lovely. Our main reason for staying was to go to Mt Field. However the town itself was a big disappointment. We had thought from other write ups that it was a "cute English style town". It isn't. There are no interesting shops, nowhre to just "browse" - just the practical chemist, couple pizza places, etc etc. There were no restaurants to eat at - only the couple of pizza places, 2 pubs, kebab shop. There was an interesting sounding historic place, Tynwald, a bit out of town, but when we rang to see if they were open, the phone was answered rudely, then we were just left hanging! There is a Woolworths.
Nice little town. Mix of very regional town facilities with fewer number of contemporary quality outlets. Town and region with great tourism potential. Lack of dining options for dinner but had a good take away feed from Shanghai restaurant in High St. Willow Court a gold mine of history and stories but needs substantial investment to become a destination in its own right.
New Norfolk
The Derwent cottage was really comfortable, very well equipped and in a location ideal for a relaxing stay. Looking out of the kitchen window at the Derwent River was very special for us. We also appreciated the location as a great base for sightseeing either into the mountains further west, south to Hobart and east to Richmond. New Norfolk has interesting antique shops, and a great Saturday morning market. Veronica and John were great hosts, very welcoming and helpful. We would be delighted to be able to stay here again in future travels.
New Norfolk
The Old Colony Inn is an absolute treat. The renovated rooms are situated in parts of the original barn area. Our hostess was just wonderful and any request was immediately taken care of. New Norfolk is such a historic town and this accommodation is so well appointed that its worth visiting for a weekend retreat. We loved the soft bed, the bathroom and all that the room had to offer, plus a sumptuous breakfast included in the price. First class accommodation, we will visit again!

The property was modern and extremely clean. It has great views over the river and about 4 minutes to New Norfolk town centre. It was very warm, inviting and comfortable. The rooms were well sized to accommodate us and all the necessary items were provided for cooking in. Just great. Parking was convenient to the apartment, at the door.
