The city is beautiful even in the rainy season. I stayed for 8 days but I think 4-5 would have been enough. It poured on one day so I went to Shopping do Barra which is a mall. The best beaches are Flamengo and the one to the right of the Farol do Barra. Going to Pelourinho during the day is a must, and you can also go to the "sambas" in the evening to dance traditional Brazilian rhythms (make sure to go early between 6 to 7 pm, because they usually end between 10 pm and 12 am (depending on the day). There are not many clubs.
Salvador is a magical city, mixing beautiful beaches with historic culture and lots of music. It has the typical public safety problems in Brazil, but great support for tourists and a very hospitable population. It's really worth getting to know.
I love the churches, especially the ones around Sao Francisco square and the Pelourinho area. The little shops and restaurants around this area are interesting to visit and there is so much art work available to see and buy.
Salvador is one of my favourite cities in Brazil - it’s so atmospheric. A visit to Pelourinho is a must and it’s good to stay there for at least a couple of days to explore at a leisurely pace - wandering the streets and admiring the restored colonial buildings is part of the attraction. Of course the Afro-Brazilian culture is the highlight - be sure to watch (maybe try) some capoeira - visit the centrally located Academia de Mestre Bimba, and of course an Olodum concert, also in the historic centre. A visit to the beaches and watching sunset from one of the forts or beachside restaurants is a must too and there are a number of good restaurants worth visiting along the coast out from the centre. For shopping check out the shops in the Pelourinho, and the Mercado Modelo for which you’ll have to ride the Lacerda elevator down to the the ‘low town’.
Salvador is a cultural place. Don't go expecting night clubs and parties - it happens only in the Carnival (February). The history there is so rich, starting since Brazil was found by the Portuguese. I strongly recommend to get a tourist guide when walking through the historical center. We hired one local guide there and he brought us to places that we would never imagine to exist in there. The beaches are really beautiful, specially Praia do Forte (all the village). Morro de São Paulo is also a good place to visit.
It was my very first visit to Brasil, and I haven't had much time to see the city of Salvador so I can't recommend anything to the other people. My goal was capoeira, and I have come there to participate in the great capoeira event of ACMB Academy and Mestre Bamba. But I have wandered the streets of Pelourinho, I have seen the buildings of various colours, the main of which were the colours of the ocean, the sand, the sun and the sky. I have listened to the Olodum drums and I have seen the people dance on the streets. Will I return? Yes I will!
Barra, Salvador
The breakfast was the best breakfast of out of maybe 5 other pousadas we stayed at while in Brazil. Petunia is incredible, and truly ensures everyone is satisfied in literally every single way. My partner got sick and she made sure we had everything we needed, the best was her allowing us to stay longer in the room since our flight didn't go out until later so that she could rest/recuperate during the day. Honestly, she was so friendly, it made me wish we had stayed longer.
this is the third Fasano I have tried and it did not disappoint. the beds and pillows are the best of any hotel I have stayed in the world. the room is well appointed, thoughtfully laid out, and has power outlets that many older upscale hotels forget. the service is outstanding; kind, efficient, but not servile. the breakfast is outstanding. the local art in the restaurant is wonderful. lovely view from the rooftop pool.
I stayed for 5 nights at this hotel. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They certainly do their best to cover up some of the issues that anyone may experience there. The room is big, and it looks a little better than some of their pictures here. Breakfast is fine, it’s a very Brazilian menu with a lot of fruits and cakes! Europeans may miss a few items though, but this super is minor.
Santo Antonio, Salvador
Very nice family feel hostel in a great location, close to restaurants and a supermarket. Much prefer Santo Antonio area than Pelourinho, I have stayed in both and feel much safer in Santo Antonio. The host is very friendly, gave many recommendations and even took us to some local markets. Will definitely be staying here again when I return to Salvador.
Location is great near "Porto da Barra" one of the nicest beaches of Salvador. Safe area, good to walking, jogging or just enjoying the landscape. Many food stores, restaurants and public transportation around the hotel. Easy access to historic center. Some of the rooms allow a marvelous view of "Baía de Todos os Santos"
Location was ok, it is in a very nice and safe place (in Salvador, it counts) and the view can be great if you are at the right side of the hotel (Unfortunately, I wasn´t...). The area for breakfast is really charming, with a nice view of the bay, and there were lots of marmosets! (I know, they can be a nuisance, but I love them).
Very nice hotel in central Salvador. The staff were super friendly, the rooms are big and comfortable. I have never seen a bigger bed (more than 2meters) The food at the restaurant was very good as well!
This is a marvelous place to stay in Salvador. The colonial decoration of the hotel is absolutely amazing and the location is just perfect. It’s a special hotel that stands out from the usual experience.
Great stay! Wish hotel in salvador is an old sheraton hotel i discovered, with a great ambiance and design. Lovely pool and rooms. Helpful staff as well. Really can’t fault my stay, thanks so much!
Rio Vermelho, Salvador
Great accomodation in Rio Vermelho, confortable room and bathroom for personal use. Mi and Dé are very nice hosts and they gave us many tips for our staying in Salvador. Highly recommended!
Good value proposition. Fair/clean/solid breakfast hotel, in a good / safe location and walkable distance to Farol da Barra and less than 10min car to Pelourinho.
Amazing location and wonderful staff. The breakfast was also great. The hotel is walking distance to many attractions in Rio Vermelho, which is a fabulous neighborhood.
Lovely hotel, very beautiful decorated and the staff is super nice. We enjoyed the breakfast also. Would recommend for visiting Salvador.
Santo Antonio, Salvador
Very cozy and clean rooms, hotel is perfectly situated in the historic city center of Salvador. Breakfast is perfect.
Santo Antonio, Salvador
the best pousada I have seen in Salvador. one of my favourites in all of Brazil.
An old run down hotel that has seen better days. Very meager breakfast
Stunning location, best cocktails I’ve had so far in Brazil
nice hotel in a nice location. good breakfast.
