It was great! So quiet when I was there and so many options :)

The location was amazing. Amazing natural beauty around the area. Such a treat to be able to hear the cow bells as the nearby cattle grazed the steep pastures.

Breathtaking view of the mountains. The room was very well organized and clean. Heat and internet access were also good and reliable. The Indian restaurant downstairs was a gem and the staff were always friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Perfect location for the Urnäsch cow parade festival. Went up to Ebenalp and hiked to Aescher restaurant. Fun experience being up in the snow when down below still lush green grass.

Beautiful area, comfortable room with an amazing view to the green hills. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. The room was clean and had all accessories needed.

Great location in Appenzell. Short walk to shops and train station. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We used the sauna after a day of hiking in the rain. Just what we needed! They stored our luggage overnight while we hiked to Aescher to stay one night.

From arrival, everything felt effortless. Check-in was warm, smooth, and genuinely welcoming. The staff consistently operated with a simple mindset: we’ll make it work and they did. They secured a fully booked restaurant table, adjusted my massage after I returned late from a hike, and arranged a late checkout without hesitation. Small gestures individually, but together they reflect an exceptional standard of service. The most memorable moment came after checkout. I had left my work phone behind and only noticed 20–30 minutes later. Instead of asking me to return, a staff member personally drove it to me still smiling, still kind and even brought a small gift from the hotel. That level of care is rare. The hotel itself is beautifully rooted in its environment. Rather than generic luxury, it embraces Swiss materials and Appenzell craftsmanship, creating interiors that feel warm, natural, and full of character. The lobby, with its sculptural wooden centerpiece, immediately sets the tone: this is a place designed with intention, not imitation. My room was quiet, comfortable, and designed for rest, but the real highlight was the view: uninterrupted green Appenzell landscapes framed by mountains the kind of view that instantly slows you down. Breakfast reinforces the sense of place, with a strong focus on regional produce fresh dairy, local bread, and ingredients that feel directly connected to the surrounding farms and villages. It feels authentic rather than curated. The QUELL SPA is a standout experience. Spread across multiple levels, it offers a wide variety of pools, saunas, and quiet relaxation spaces. The rooftop infinity pool overlooking the mountains is particularly unforgettable, a place where time genuinely disappears.

Honest review of a SOLO traveler without a car. The hotel is being renovated and they’re doing a wonderful job. The room was clean, the interior feels homely and the breakfast buffet has a good variety, but I LOVED the made-to-order bacon and eggs. What really makes this hotel shine though are the people who run it. When I booked this property, I made the mistake of not checking its location--you can’t reach it by bus or train. There is a local shuttle service that can take you to and from, however, their app is mediocre and you need to plan your rides ahead of time as it can take some time before a driver becomes available. Fortunately, I caught my error in time and reached out to the hotel for guidance. Jannine, from the hotel, scheduled for someone to pick me up at the trains station to take me to the hotel. I was extremely grateful for that service. Once I got to the hotel, I downloaded the app and got lucky with minimal wait times to go into town and to the gondolas around the area. Every interaction I had with the people at Hotel Kaubad was genuine and kind. Polina’s attention to detail and caring demeanor did not go unnoticed, and I am grateful for all of the effort you put into ensuring my comfort and wellbeing. Dibraun’s hospitality goes above and beyond. If you are traveling to Appenzell without a car, I recommend reaching out to Hotel Kaubad through email or Whatsapp. Their location also has great hikes and mountain huts you can dine at. I promise you, staying at Kaubad is worth it.

Great location. We were prepping for a backpacking trip from Hoher Kasten and this was an excellent, cheap jumping off point.

Loved the location, on a mountain ridge with beautiful views and super quiet at night. Loved the place and highly recommend it, both for the accommodation and the on-site restaurant.
