This is an well fitted hotel, in the town center, at a walkable distance from the old/touristic zone (as its” name suggests), with a safe parking and a homy breakfast room (and good and various dishes). The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and spotless clean, with comfortable beds. The courtesy of the personnel completed our short but very pleasant stay in the so beautiful town of Trier. With its reach history, Trier deserves at least 2 or 3 days to learn about the two thousands life of the oldest city in Germany.

FAQs about hotels in Trier

Roman Roots in Germany's Oldest City

Germany’s oldest city and capital of the Western Roman Empire until the 3rd century, Trier is overflowing with exquisite architecture and Roman ruins such as the Amphitheatre and Porta Nigra gate. The colossal Cathedral Trier is also the oldest of its kind in Germany.

Historic landmarks continue with the 2nd-century Roman bridge that crosses over the Moselle river, which also passes through nearby Luxembourg and France. Cruises along the Moselle start in Koblenz and end in Trier.

Trier was the home of Karl Marx and the 15th-century University of Trier is home to a large student population that often refers to the university as Karl-Marx-University of Trier. His birthplace is now a museum, Karl Marx House.

A wonderful example of the Christmas markets in Germany can be found each year in Trier, at Hauptmarkt Square in front of the cathedral. Make sure you check Booking.com for special deals on hotels during this period.

Trier is a lively city with lots of Roman and Middle Ages sites. There is too much to do in one day. Unesco heritage sites and items can be found everywhere. There are also lovely river, city, and forest hikes around.

Trier is known of course for the Porta Nigra and several other Roman period buildings. It also has a impressive Dom and other religious buildings (the prince-bishopric of Trier was one of the electorates of the Holy Roman Empire). The city is compact with all sights in the centre doable by foot. It is also not too large, and ideal for a long weekend.

Plenty of history here (Roman and later). Some fine churches and other historic buildings. Pleasant to wander around. The reconstruction of Emperor Constantine's ceiling in the Diocesan Museum is quite stunning as an archaeological achievement. Plenty of eateries, though I self-catered.

My main goal was to visit a Bundesliga basketball game at the Arena. It was great experience. I enjoyed my time in old town. It's good to have a trip by local old town train. You do get overview of a history and gives you a hint what to explore for more. Great view place of Trier is at Villa Weisshouse. The cathedral in old town is worth to visit and see. The best coffee in town is at Balott (old town)! After you try it you keep coming back. Old town is also good for shopping, enjoying fresh pastries as there are lot of bakeries.

I think there's something for everyone there. Especially great for history and an immmense river. I used to go many, many years ago and it was great to catch up with friends. Top tip, I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a bus to take me to Luxembourg airport only to find out it was a direct train and free 29 bus from Luxembourg station!

This was our second visit to Trier, the first was some ten years ago in the summer. This time, we discovered the tourist "road train" which takes you on a three quarters of an hour sight seeing tour around the town. Fantastic way to view the town before setting out on foot.

I often stay in Trier when travelling between UK and the Alps. I've tried a few hotels. Nowadays I always stay at Best Western for a few reasons. Some of the staff have worked there for a long time, so they know me and are very attentive. They always look after me, and all the guests. All the rooms are comfortable. An excellent breakfast and on-site parking make this hotel very convenient. It's an easy walk through the pedestrianised area to the centre. For me it's consistently the best all round hotel in Trier, and good value.

The room was super clean, sophisticated, and comfortable. I arrived at around 5pm, and I could easily check in with entering the confirmation code into the machine outside. They provided me with a receipt and a room card. I was so tired from a long journey, so it was perfect for me to check in by myself without needing to speak to anyone. The location was easily accessible from the Trier station and the city centre. There were dm, TKMAXX, and Aldi near the hotel where you can get food and essentials if you need.

Everything. My room was beautifully furnished and very comfortably. The hotel had a lovely relaxed atmosphere of people enjoying themselves. I did like the location although on a first visit to Trier a more central location would have suited me better. I had intended to go to see the orchids at Löschemer Berg but because I damaged my car when parking near the river I went home to get it repaired. I hope to be back next year.

Kolping is a hostel providing single rooms with excellent value in the centre of Trier. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is not a hotel so would be pointless to rate it as one: comfort is just what I would expect from a hostel. All was as described online, including the steps to the third floor :) There was liitle noise from outside the building. Shower rooms were very clean and modern and had no problem with accessing
