German Cultural Heart
Weimar is not only a charming town in central Germany, but it has also been an important cultural centre for almost 3 centuries. Home to artists like Goethe, Schiller, Liszt, Bach and Strauss, the city's legacy is only comparable to the beauty of its idyllic surroundings.
It was between 1758 and 1828, during the regencies of Duchess Anna Amalia and her son Duke Carl August, that the town became the capital of German Enlightenment.
