Mindo has a lot of wonderful nature options. Feeding hummingbirds, the BEST butterfly gardens we have ever visited and we have been to many & really good bird watching - we used Sandra & Romelly at Bird Paradaisio (sp) & had alot of fun & Romelly drove us back safely to Quito but took us on an extra bird sighting trip on the way that was super - wonderful too! The trails to the waterfalls was a lot of fun & the falls are worth the trek although these out of shape older folks didn't make it to them all. The chocolate tour at Yumbos led by Amir was wonderful! We enjoyed both the tarabita & telerifico rides although the last was a bit scary, terrific views! Prices for everything was very reasonable, food may be a bit higher than rest of Ecuador but not too bad. Limited options though as most menus looked almost the same. One place we would definitely come back to. Only the food options were a little lacking. Everything else was fun & it was nice to be out of big cities.

Mindo has so many things to do.
Mindo has so many things to do. We took a ride on the cable car (Tabita) and then hiked to see the 5 waterfalls. We toured a butterfly house and took a coffee tour. The town is small so walking was the way to explore. We only needed a taxi to get to the hiking. Definitely take a truck taxi since the roads are rough and windy to get to the top. Our driver gave us his phone number to call him when were finished hiking. There are so many different restaurants to choose from and very good prices. We enjoyed our two night stay at the El Descanso where we saw so many tropical birds (especially hummingbirds) right off the back patio.

Mindo is a lovely little town, famous for chocolate, butterflies and waterfalls! Although there’s a lot of activities, you can get through most of them in 2 days, which makes it a great weekend travel destination.
Temperatures are usually mild due to it being in the clouds.

I've visited here twice, once in 2001 and the second time in 2023. I would say it has actually improved quite a lot in that time; the road into town is better, and the facilities in the area are much better. There are some much better restaurants and small cafes, and more "fun" activities available than there used to be. At the same time, the development hasn't been allowed to run rampant, so it still has the feel of a small town in the subtropics.
Excellent hostel on the edge of Mindo, but within a short easy walk to the rest of Mindo. The hostel is clean, with comfortable beds and hot water.
The best part are the hammocks overlooking the forest - we had a wonderful time just relaxing and listening to the sounds of the birds.
Breakfast was included and very tasty. You eat on a garden terrace and watch the birds which was lovely.
Staff are friendly, and are able to offer recommendations for activities and food.
The hotel is in a beautiful location, with gorgeous grounds and plenty of space. We stayed in the bungalows, which are huge and very private. They’re well furnished (they have outdoor hammocks!) and very clean. The housekeeping staff is INCREDIBLE. They did such an amazing job, way above and beyond the usual. The other staff were also really nice and very helpful, they even let us eat breakfast a little early because we got the time confused. An overall top class stay!
We loved the hotel. So beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and the views amazing. I never has breakfast in such a beautiful place. Mindo is a great place to visit, extremely safe and with many things to do! We recommend the canopy, the bird watching, the waterfalls and the chocolate tour. We also had the transfers organised by the hotel which was very handy and helped us a lot to move from airport to mindo and mindo to cotopaxi!
Location was superb - right in heart of Mindo close to all experiences.
Staff on the reception was very friendly and helped us with the information and directions.
The room was decent, relatively comfortable bed. Good value for the price.
Amenities included free storage for bags, which was helpful for our check-out day.
There is a breakfast, but we did not make it (booked an early morning bird watching tour)
This is a beautiful hotel, very peaceful and relaxing. Great thought has gone into the design, furnishings, paintings, garden etc. It's extremely clean, the rooms are cosy and comfortable and they serve a lovely breakfast. It's an easy 5 minute walk into the centre of Mindo for restaurants, cafes etc. If you want to see lots of birds take a taxi to San Tadeo Birding. Don't book at the hotel.
A very nice place in the middle of nature, comfortable and spacious room, very good breakfast with a lot of fresh fruits.
Kind, generous and attentive hospitality by Alejandro.
There is a 10-15 minutes easy walk from the lodge to the center of Mindo, and also few minutes from main area toward our room. we were fine with it (except when it rained hard...), lovely view.
Ronnie is great he was so helpful and really knowledgeable about the local area and things to do in Mindo. The hotel organised a lift from Quito airport to the hotel which was helpful due to the time we arrived. The room was extremely clean and a great size. It is in a great location in town. I would recommend anybody coming to Mindo to stay in Toucan Platinum Suites.
Fantastic location overlooking the cloud forest. Our room had large floor to roof glass windows which was breathtaking. The entire staff was excellent and Washington - the chef + care taker was just great. We even did the tasting menu and Washington made all vegetarian Ecuadorian courses which was a treat
I would stay here again in a heartbeat…
Beautiful wood and brick building, comfortable bed and extremely clean. Gorgeous views and the hummingbirds are delightful! I could have watched them for hours. Ten minute taxi ride from Mindo town, but so much more pleasant to stay here. If you are vegetarian, I recommend the vegetarian ceviche, which was sort of a gazpacho with beans.
Very well managed. Maria, the manager is an exceptional host. She is very attentive to one's needs and proactive. She organized all my taxi needs and she knows the area very well. The grounds are stunning....topically lush. The pool is lovely and very private. If I ever return to Mindo, I will book the Mindo Real.
The room looked into forest and was great for birdwatching. Fresh fruit and fresh pastries with eggs for breakfast. Nearby Mindo River. Best part was host Paola who was very warm and engaging. Went on chocolate tour with Paola and enjoyed her sweet cat Luna. Pleasant walk into town partly on a dirt road.
Out of town, which is good. You can walk to town in 30 minutes. There are plenty of birds along the road. The Hosteria is on the Rio Mindo. In fact, the cabins overlook the river. Great Arabic breakfast. Hosts extremely helpful with taxis, etc.
Very nice location away from the center of town, along side a river, with hummingbirds in the garden by the patio restaurant. Very pleasant and affordable lodging in Mindo. Highly recommended.
Good hostel! The family is really nice and the rooms are good. A couple of hammocks and a kitchen with filtered water and a fridge. Few minutes away from the centre but Mindo is small anyway :)
It is really beautiful. It is far from downtown Mindo and you with need a high car to get there because of four little rivers that you need to cross, but it is beautiful.
Breakfast was simple but adequate.
Gloria & Hernan couldn’t have been more helpful & gracious. Hernan gave us a lovely tour en route to delivering us to Mindo.
