Grand Bayan Hotel & Apt at Nile Plaza, Sphinx and pyramids Inn and O Valence Hotel have received great reviews from travellers in Cairo regarding the views from their hotel rooms.
Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.
The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.
If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.
Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.
I loved the Nile walking space and cafe around there. If someone likes to drink alcoholic drinks it’s better to buy from duty free shop in the airport. You need a long time for visiting the museum and also pyramids. I G ad a local private driver which really helped me. The costs was not too much. I have been told the best Coshery which is a local cuisine, was in abutaregh restaurant and they had different portion of the food to avoid waisting. Be careful with the money, if you loose, it I think you can not find it again (I had this experience)
Huge city, with lots of history; with chaotic traffic; full of commerce on the streets, but with a lot of pollution and in need of a lot of street cleaning. The local population abuses tourists through less than honest schemes; I always doubt the good intentions of helping tourists, as they only think about earning extra money.
Great safe city as long as you are willing to put up with con men and people selling everything from paintings tours taxis etc. All will ask for 4x the price. Where are you from thing. In two weeks I have never been approached by a local genuine person. All that said if you venture in the out of the way places people are warm and genuine.
I did not go at all because of an automobile accident. Just writing this with some advice - keep in mind that except for the Ramses Hilton and a few other high end hotels, most reservations are NON-REFUNDABLE. I made reservations at the Jewel Zamalek, which is one of the better hotels in Zamalek. I paid over $2,000 and they would not even give me a partial refund or move my reservation to the following year.
We can't just talk about Cairo if as talk about a wider tour around Cairo and Giza. Where we stayed is a district which you have closer look at the Giza pyramids. The district is full with horses, camels and ATVs, and unfortunately with taxis to provide service to tourists, we understand that by endless disturbing questions. However all these animals are not carefully handled -not just talking about wild human attitudes against them- in terms of cleaning their feces. No one cannot say about these 'a traditional city' after a few days, if you are not a person who feel sick about the smell of all these fences and garbage everywhere, waking-up to the garbage fire smell makes us forget about the view just in a few seconds, believe me. Being preservative about the culture and being clean are two things to be distiungished. Regards.
Cairo is a hustling, bustling, noisy, dusty city which never sleeps. The traffic is something else which I cannot get used to. Be very wary of the entrance to the Pyramids because it is chocked with scammers and hustlers who are in cahoots with some of the Uber drivers. Uber is the best and very cheap way to get around Cairo but make sure you have a Egyptian Sim card which cost about 200 Egypt pounds. One must visit the Egyptian Museum of Culture where you can see the mummies in the vault, what an experience!
