We only stopped here because of its location on the via de la Plata. We had to stay an extra night because we contracted food poisoning at lunch. We moved hotel from a poor centre hostal to the recently refurbished modern hotel at the edge of town to recover. Nothing to do here. Even the ham museum was closed in the afternoon.
Monesterio is a small town that is clean and has plenty of shops and places to eat. Well sign posted for the Via De La Plata. It takes a huge pride in its farming of everything to do with pork and also the roman road that runs through it. People are very friendly and helpful.
A very well located town with plenty of restaurants and cafés and bars. There's a Jamon Museum and a very good tourist office where they speak English, are knowledgeable and keen to help. It's a perfect location for walking in the surrounding countryside. It's also a great stopping-off place between Seville and Mérida on the historic Ruta de la Plata.
This pretty town has a wide variety of places to eat, plenty of interesting little shops and a very good museum on jamon, made out of the black pigs that feed on acorns in the fields around the town. I had lunch in 'Rinconcillo' restaurant and it was superb. The Museo del Jamon is very interesting and the tourist office, situated within the museum has a knowledgeable, English-speaking tourist officer only too willing to help you get the most out of your stay. An excellent area for walking and exploring the countryside. Not too far away is the ancient Monastery of Tentudía situated at the highest point in Badajoz Province, Extremadura. There is a good café-bar up there with a terrace looking out over the most amazing view. I had lunch there and it's called 'El Balcón de Tentudía'. There is a lot to do in the area.
