I can't understand why there were so many negative comments about this property. The room was huge with a sitting area. Hotel Veliz shares the building with Hotel Avenida which is no problem at all. If you want to experience a local Spanish town this is a good one to try. A wonderful Spanish restaurant next door doing a fabulous menu del dia lunchtimes only. Take a 20 minute walk into the town and bar hop. Loads of places to eat and drink on the way. Bus stop opposite the hotel to go into Torre del Mar or the El Ingenio shopping centre. Great breakfast cafe 200m up called El tomate making their own churros. Parking all the way up the middle of the main road. There is a full size fridge and a hairdryer which weren't featured in the write up. We will certainly stay here again.

Basic but large room with three singles. Everything was gleaming clean. Staff were warm and welcoming despite arriving at 3AM. Exceptional helpful. The weather was cold at night and the room was warm. En suite had a great shower and lots of hot water. Soap towels etc were plentiful. Had a fridge but no kettle, but we knew this before we arrived and brought one. The lift was great for my mum as we were on the third floor. Close to cafes and restaurants, not far from the town centre. Velez is gorgeous. A good blend of old and new.

Very nice owner, super clean and well equipped rooms. The breakfast was amazing and the swimming pool enjoyable! The bed was very comfy and great internet connection. Beautiful place as it was a former school. I would definitely turn back there if I'm around.

Spectacular city with good food and some shopping and incredible natural beauty. Very nice people. If you go there, you must have breakfast at Sergio's Puerto Nuevo Molleteria. It's a great spot and Sergio is fantastic.

Vélez is a rare gem.

Vélez is a rare gem. The Mediterranean coast is seriously "overrun" with tourism and tourist facilities. But Vélez is a few km inland, and has escaped the madness. A beautiful, charming, pleasant, clean and safe community, yet one is still close to the beaches only minutes away. And of course it still enjoys the wonderful climate of the area: pleasantly warm and moderated by onshore breezes from the Mediterranean. Transportation services are good. One is only half an hour from Málaga's airport (code: AGP) and also Malaga's railway station (María Zambrano) with high-speed trains to Madrid and elsewhere. If you avoid renting a car (like I do) taxis and busses get you around quickly and efficiently. Restaurants focus on the locals, not tourists. Makes for considerably better quality and prices.

Velez Malaga is a really nice town with a mix of both the old part and new. It has lots of little cobbled back streets with very traditional little Spanish bars and restaurants scattered around, although as it's not your typical tourist destination be prepared for many bars not to open on certain days, although when you can sample them you may be pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost compared to your typical Costa! In addition, it's literally next door to the seaside resort of Torres del Mar, so if you fancy a swim in the sea, it's just a 5 minute drive. There is also a decent golf course (Baviera) a short 15 min drive away.

It is a pleasant town to wander round.

It is a pleasant town to wander round. We are not beach people, as we prefer mountains. It's a good centre for reaching the various routes that are advertised., like the raisin route and the mudejar route. Velez Malaga is not too touristy. It is not an easy place to find your way around by car.

Beautiful small hotel which I’d highly recommend. Outstanding views, wonderful gardens and pool area, very clean and comfortable rooms, exemplary service by all staff. Wouldn’t hesitate to revisit. Hired a car for just £100 for 5 days through the hotel. Taxis to and from airport 70 euros each trip again organised by hotel. Lovely buffet breakfast served in the orangery with views down the hills to the sea. We ate dinner there almost every night which was always exceptional Stunning venue for a wedding too!
