Nuuksio National Park is my favorite place in Espoo. It´s a large park, popular with families and hikers. In the park there are also camping areas if you bring a tent with you. The park is situated only about 15 kilometers from Espoo city from where is bus connection.
During summer, you can experience swimming in ocean and realize water is usually cold (proposing to visit e.g. Matinkyla beach, good for families, sand is clean and it is not very deep near the coast line). Similarly you can find some places to swim in lakes (e.g. Lippajarvi). Budget friendly swimming also available in Leppavaara, where is indoor and outdoor swimming pools available with about 5 euro entrance fee. Clean and well maintained swimming place. It is about 10 minutes walk from Leppavaara train/bus station and located in sport park of Leppavaara. Couple of nice shopping centers around Espoo, Sello in Leppavaara (train station next to it), Iso Omena in Matinkyla (subway station expected to open during 2017) and Ainoa in Tapiola (subway also to be opened soon). Espoo has several nice nature parks (Nuuksio, central park, Leppavaara sport park etc.) and all for free.
Near Helsinki Espoo is missing many of the attractions that Helsinki has. And Espoo does not have one clear center/downtown to visit. On the other hand if you want to visit in a typical Finnish forest, Nuuksio is a great choise. And you don´t need any special equipment, just good walking shoes. For modern art fan Emma has usually high standard exhibitions. Iso Omena shopping centre has a brand new section opened - there can be found many reasonable priced restaurants. If you want to jog/cycle along cost line, "Rantaraitti" offers you views, that can not be found in many places
Nice place for shopping, tasting different foods and perfect place who wants to avoid the busy city life but again don't like too much quite city. It is really easy to get around by train and buses. the Core Helsinki is also near to go.
In fairness, I didn't see a lot of it because I am a student so I wasn't here to sightsee and do things, but I'd suggest spending your time in Helsinki and then going off to Nuuksio and further afield (Tampere, Turku, etc.) rather than spending time in Espoo.
We used Espoo as a base for visiting Helsinki. The good transport links meant that the suburban train took us to central Helsinki in less than 15 minutes. The purchase of weekly travel cards kept the cost of travelling down. Helsinki was busy but pleasant with many interesting sights, museums and shops to keep us occupied. The area around Lepivaara was very well served with shops and restaurants. A good tip is to eat between 10.30 and 15.00 as most restaurants have lunchtime buffet offers which keep the costs down if there are a few of you eating. Aside from the usual fare of burger bars two notable good eating places were the Italian Pizza restaurant in the Sello shopping centre and the Jufu Chines buffet at the Espoo shopping centre, the lunchtime buffet was all you can eat for 8.95 Euros each. A visit to the island of Suomelinna gives you the opportunity to see Helsinki from the sea. By using the public transport boat rather than a private one you can do this using your travel card at no additional cost. The ferry to Tallinn is reasonably priced if you choose wisely and allows you to spend time in another beautiful city. If you drink you will find that alcohol is far cheaper in Tallinn than in Helsinki and there is a generous customs allowance of which the Finnish locals take full advantage. For the young people in our party we found the High Ropes course in Leppivaara a real hit. The trampolining at Rush near Pasila and stand up paddle boarding at Toolonlahti also proved popular with the youngsters.

It's much more affordable to come in Espoo instead of Helsinki city center, and the metro is quite easy to use as there is only one line! Still, except the proximity with the metro line, and a walking tour you can get if you want to walk around this big lake, there is not that much to do around. Maybe to go to the islands but didn't get enough time to visit. Also, they have sauna!

Location was perfect. Apartment is located right above a shopping mall and you can go directly from there to the metro station and from there it is a 15 minutes ride right to the Helsinki main train station. A lot of interesting things to see and do in Espoo as well. The apartment was big enough, with spacious bathroom, very nicely furnished and clean. Nice terrace.

Very nice feeling of being in the woods, with a lake outside. Excellent for someone who appreciates the rustic beauty of Finnish nature. Also very close to the best water park in Finland.

Really spacious room and comfortable beds. Great location amongst the trees. It was really easy to get into the city by bus we actually enjoyed being out rather than in. Check in is so simple and by just getting door codes by text it meant we could arrive in the middle of the night without a problem.
