Cannes is compact and full of things to see besides the venue where they hold the film festival. There are LOTS of designer shops, and lots of restaurants, shops etc. It's easy to walk around, although some people were whizzing about on scooters and bicycles as well.
The old town is perched up on a hill, and it's worth getting the little tourist train up there, and then walking back down through all the little old winding streets.
We swam every day - and the sea was just right; not too cold in September, and with a bit of a bounce to it some days.
We had intended to catch the ferry across to the islands, but ran out of time.
We did get a local train to Eze, and then a bus up into the old town there - it's a long way up! We carried on by train to Monte Carlo, and then to Ventimiglia in Italy.

I hadn't been back for some 8 years and the changes in Cannes have been noticeable , with many more food and beverage options and an upgrade to the general amenity of the city centre and beach boardwalk / La Croisette . Could have easily stayed an extra few days to fully explore this fun city.

Cannes is very glamorous and the shopping and restaurants are varied. Some are superb and others not so good. Difficult to appreciate the beauty of the beach as it is covered in sun beds and bars. Very expensive.
The people are lovely and seem to welcome visitors even if our French is poor.
Overall we loved it.

Cannes is one of our favorite places in the world - very charming old town Suquet with lovely restaurants ("Le Marais" with Jean-Yves is amazing), pedestian area in rue Felix Faure & rue Hoche with cute gelaterias, bars and restaurants, as well as rue d'Antibes & Croisette. Cannes is amazing any time of the year and top destinations for sumemr holidays and festivals. Upscale restaurants like "Baoli", "La Petite Maison", "Medusa" are changing their targeted custiomers, thus loss a bit of their attractivity. "La Guèrite" never dissapoints...

I have visited and stayed in Cannes many times.
I have visited and stayed in Cannes many times. I always visit nearby Nice, Monaco and a little town on the hill called Mougins!
With accommodations you can choose between location and hotel comfort and expect to sacrifice one or the other to your preference. Rooms are priced accordingly. I stayed at the Cannes Center Hotel Universe last visit: a perfect example of the best of both worlds.
Beaches are easy access. If you want a quieter experience hit the beach at the extreme East end past the harbor (Pointe Crositte) along the Blvd Eugene Gazagnaire.
Dining: I have never found a restaurant that didn't exceed my expectations....even late at night. One restaurant I NEVER miss is called La Pizza right near the west end harbor. And for late night I recommend the Gelato Junkie immediately behind the Hotel Splendid.
Any location in town is walk-able but I definitely recommend getting as close to the water/shopping as reasonably possible.

Cannes can be covered in 2 days.
Cannes can be covered in 2 days. There is not much to do or watch. Just the Festival Area, Promenade ( La Plage) , Harbour with Yatches and Old town. You can do day trip to Grasse and Antibes which are just 30 mins by rail.
The staff were very helpful and kindly allowed us to check into our room earlier than planned. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the little extras included (small body moisturiser, sewing kits, etc) were a lovely added touch. The hotel was located in a very central part of Cannes which made traveling to most places by foot very easy. We had a nice little balcony in the room. Overall, we were so impressed with the quality of this hotel for the price and will definitely book another stay.
Beautiful location on the Croissette with a lovely garden and excellent Japanese restaurant. Rooms are so chic and modern, it feels like you’re on a very luxurious ocean liner (but with a lot more space). The hotel has a very intimate feel and the staff are incredibly helpful and hospitable. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and definitely the most elegant in Cannes.
Staff were exceptional, had a real people person approach. Facilities were great, enjoyed the spa massage as well. Best place we stayed in the South of France by a country mile and we stayed in Niece, Monaco, St Tropez and Marseille as well.
The location was good. Less than ten minutes walk from Cannes Train station. Also the same time to the sea. Although the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, it was not a problem noise wise.
