The Renaissance is housed in a 17th-century mansion in central Castres. It offers air-conditioned rooms with traditional and antique furnishings. Each room also has a private bathroom and TV. I found the description of this hotel so interesting that I decided to go out of my way to stay here instead of continuing on to Carcassone. I had a huge room in Renaissance style with so many features and special ornamentation from that era. It was like spending the night in a museum of decorative arts. The hotel staff speak perfect English and we're kind enough to bring my bags to the room. The location is easy to find with GPS. It's not a very large city and there's plenty of free parking within convenient walking distance although the hotel does offer valet parking for a fee. This overnight was one of the highlights of my trip.

An historic and vibrant town, chock-full of excellent bars, cafes and restaurants. Rarely have we seen so many establishments. Covid has closed some of the historic buildings and the Goya museum is shut for a year for major restoration. The tourist office was first-class, so helpful. Myriad shops of every kind in gorgeous little sidestreets, a wonderful covered market selling mouthwatering meats, charcuterie, cheese, spices, wine etc. and open every day. Because of bad weather, the medieval-style boat was moored up. We can't wait to go back.
A small pretty town by the river - easy to walk around. The market was great value and while out and about we met lots of friendly people. Castres is a bit off the tourist trail which we enjoyed. However there are limited attractions. The Goya museum would be of interest if you like religious paintings but the museum is not large. We went walking in the nearby Sidobre area where there are several walks to see unusual rock formations. Overall an interesting small town to spend a few days.
The city centre - beautiful, with loads of surprise little squares and fountains everywhere. Lots of good eating places in Place Jean Jaures. A visit to the Goya Museum was very rewarding. Parking tip - park for free at the Bus Station (next to the Gare SNCF) and take a free bus into town.
A cute town with interesting history, and a lovely art museum of Spanish masterworks. Located close to Toulouse, but not really on tourist itineraries, so a nice quiet stopover if going to or from the Toulouse airport.
Castres is a lovely picturesque city with lovely scenery and buildings and parks to see. It is ideal for a weekend break for a getaway and the weather is lovely. You could have a nice romantic weekend here.
The city was a lovely surprise, historic properties and a nice relaxed feel. Being on the edge of the Nature Reserve, it has many sites to see in surrounding towns and villages. Castres has many places to eat, especially away from the town square.
Castres
Everything! Françoise was the most amazing host, very warm and welcoming and the breakfast, all homemade was the best! Pancakes, bread, cakes, yoghurts, fruits, juices. The house was charming, very stately, and well furnished to a very high standard. The pool was a good size, and plenty of sun loungers. There was an outdoor kitchen and fridge too for the guests which was useful. The accommodation was well placed to explore Castres, a really beautiful town. Also a good base to explore Le Sidonie, to see the rock formations and lake.
excellent reception staff - very welcoming - informative and friendly. Great location - close to a number of restaurants - be careful, Saturday night all fully booked - but Hotel Renaissance came to our rescue with more excellent service and great value.
Castres
Excellent breakfast. Beautiful setting and charming host. Enormous bathroom. Lovely décor. Host rustled up a good dinner although we had not booked food. Good for a B and B but we moved on to a proper hotel afterwards.
Old quirky but very clean hotel, all staff were very friendly and very helpful!! The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you for your hospitality.
The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel was very well located in the town centre.
A lovely surprise! Very helpful management ... 10/10 pour l' hotel du Causse A
