Surrounded by views of the city, l'Arche des Chapeliers is a sustainable bed and breakfast in Foix, offering guests an environmentally friendly accommodation close to Foix Castle.

The bedroom was very large and also had a separate sitting room with TV, small refrigerator, micro, teapot, sofa and small table with tea and coffee. The bathroom was also large and very clean. Nice comfortable, large bed. There are many electrical outlets to charge all your electrical items in both the sitting room and the bedroom. Very good WiFi and good telephone reception inside the house. It is a short walk from SNCF and close to the chateau and restaurants. Sonia is very helpful and gave me a nice selection of breakfast items the night before since I was leaving very early.

Jackie was lovely. She made us a good breakfast every day and spent time chatting with us (which made me work on my French!). She is an artist, so the studio was beautifully decorated with art. Pretty little enclosed garden. Location is right in the center of Medieval Foix, which meant we could walk everywhere. Lots of cafes, restaurants, shops.

I was charged twice for the room.

I was charged twice for the room. Once through Booking and then by the Hotel; I don’t speak French and the manager didn’t or didn’t want to speak English. So I paid twice Later on American Express resolved the issue; I had paid twice. I would NOT recommend this hotel

Foix is closed on Mondays, so do not plan to visit the castle on Monday. There is was little to see or do in the town. Restaurants close very early and are not open on Mondays. The Visitors' Center offered a suggested visit to Forges. It filled some time. We were also caught in Foix when a General Strike was called. The town has very little to offer tourists besides the castle. A better castle to visit is located in Carcassone, just a short drive away.

It's a lovely little town and hasn't been overrun by tourists, so local people are friendly, prices (for restaurants and such) favourable, and one can run into some old crafts (I, for instance, bought a handmade comb from cow horn, a lovely thing, from an old guy who makes them). That was on the market (not to be missed, it's by the river). The castle is great but the town itself is definitely also worth some exploration.

In the region of the pyrenees you need staff who can speak several languages not just French. If you are not happy with the quality of food you should be able to refuse payment not have them take it out of your bank that is illegal.

We were there for the Tour de France.

We were there for the Tour de France. Town offers good shopping, markets on Tuesday & Fridays + smaller ones on other days. Numerous cafes spill out into the main shaded avenue. A compact town with an historic core and a castle that MUST be visited. The castle has re-oppened in 2019 after a revamp and has excellent, modern IT-based interpretation. There are also activities - archery, forge work, practice stone masonry + watch a trebuchet in action. Staff are in period costume and make this an experience and not just a visit. Well worth the 12 euros. Adults & children alike will learn a great deal about Cathar France. The main musem is accessible to wheelchair users, the main castle requires some climbing. Several Cathar castles close by plus Carcassonne and Mirepix which are worth a visit. Consider a trip to the Med (Narbonne/Beziers) and Andorra whilst you are in Foix. There are numerous walks zig-zaging up the mountains.
