Macon is a relatively big town.
Macon is a relatively big town. We stayed 5 days which was perfect. We took a sailing boat down ther river, went on le petit train which took round the town and gave us some history on various buildings etc. Went on a wine and food degustation which was very good. As we were there over Bastille day - a wonderful classical concert took place at place St Pierre free of charge followed by a more energetic concert by DJ French on the quai. Lovely restaurants and cafes. It is quiet in Macon over this period but we didn't mind that. Not too touristy just right.

Sunday was not the best night to stay in order to find...
Sunday was not the best night to stay in order to find somewhere to have dinner. The recommendation given us by the hotel turned out to be closed. We walked for quite a way before we found a very nice place near the river. Other than that it was fine. Would’ve been nice to spend a day there but not on the cards as we needed to be at our destination by the following day. But definitely an attractive and interesting city to visit for sure

Very nice, smaller city, near the river Saona, nice walking area, rich history; we had dinner in the oldest wodden house in the city and brunch at Les Coursives near the cathedral. Both nice places and good food.

Perfect stopping place on the way to Italy/Spain, and on the way back to the UK/other countries, easier than Lyon. Some very good value riverside restaurants in town along the Saone . Easy access to highways & shops.

Whilst the location of this hotel is very handy with it...
Whilst the location of this hotel is very handy with it being just on the motorway. The condition of the place was appalling. On first sight it looks scruffy, only half the signage worked and it looks like it needs a good coat of paint. The rooms are super basic, which would be fine if they were clean which they weren't. We ended up having to pay for this hotel but we didn't stay as it would have spoiled our holiday.

Excellent location off the motorway and very convenient for trip south to the coast. Bed comfortable and quiet night. Nice restaurants in Macon but had a drink in bar after. Hotel is dated and needs a refresh but you will barely notice if you have been driving 12 hours! Lovely staff.

Gorgeous spacious room and lovely big bed. Good aircon was sooo welcome as it was very hot when we were there. We loved the decor and the art around the hotel, very quirky and interesting. A super big outdoor pool too! :) A lovely hotel all round. We would have stayed longer than the one night if we’d had the opportunity.

The room was ok for a Hotel nearby the highway and big enough. The airconditioning was not amazing or it was super cold or was not working if you put it a bit higher to avoid freezing.

The rooms are quiet and have good blackout shutters and comfortable beds. The 306 rooftop bar is fun, parking is available and overall a great stopover when driving through France
