The gardens at the Palace of Versailles are very impressive. The Palace was also impressive but was too busy to be enjoyable. Either go first thing before the hordes arrive or after 3pm when it has quietened down a bit.
The Palace Will blow you away. It’s so beautiful, it will literally leave you stunned and wanting to stay longer. The palace is stunning but must do a tour of the highlights to make it interesting. The grounds are something else, could spend my entire holiday there. Can hire golf buggies to get around from down near the ground camel €38 for an hour or bikes. As it’s so vast. Take a picnic or use the restaurants. We were there on a very busy weekend so queues were long, be patient, it’s worth it. Not much shade if hot to umbrella is a good shout. Also the town is equally is lovely & worth walking round. Whatever time you think it will take you, double it.
April 7, 2023. It took us about 4 hours (2:00-6:00) to visit the palace, not including the gardens, where we spent another 2 hours and are an absolute must see. Tips: Pre-buy the tickets . Visit later in the afternoon so the bigger morning crowds are gone by later afternoon . The palace closes at 6:00pm, the gardens close at 7:00 (groves) & the main garden at 8:00 so leave the gardens for the end of day when the palace is already closed. By this point it’s dinner time so head into the Place Du Marche (downtown) for some great food. We actually booked a hotel in Versailles for the night night and left the following day straight to the airport, which is about 45 minutes away which was much better than having to drive back to Paris the same day. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see le petit Trianon (the queens palace) but we could’ve had we started visit there at 11 AM when they open
I love staying in towns off from a big city. Versailles was wonderful without the crowds…I visited the chateau on a Wednesday not crowded at all. Met someone on a train, she went Thursday and said it was very crowded. Overall Versailles was wonderful. Took a day trip to Rambouillet which is on the Paris Museum Pass. Easy and convenient.
If driving to Paris Versailles is a great location to park the car and use public transport to get around easy journey to Centre of Paris using RER. Visiting the Palace if you’ve not been before is a must but go at 10am it gets really busy with long queues after that. Versailles also has some of the most authentic and best restaurants for families. It also has a tradition market and if your missing fast food a McDonalds and KFC outside the train station. Recommend eating at Le Boeuf a la Mode you can reserve a table on line traditional French cuisine great value for money kids loved it.
Wonderful Palace, pleased there was the little train to take us around when our legs ached ! lovely restaurant by the lake. Did not have time to see everything, not as young as I was, can't get around so quickly, I would personally spread it over 2 days to take in everything leisurely.
Versailles

The apartment was easy to find and check-in was not a problem. Parking was just 100m away. Lovely wooden floors too!
The hotel, service, location was amazing. We visited the palace of Versailles, which was walking distance. We also ate in the Gordon Ramsey restaurant for a 7 course dinner and it was delicious. We drove into Paris which was nice and easy - only 12 miles.
