The isolated location of this boutique hotel, the history of this old building, the garden with peacocks, the beauty and comfort of the family suit, everything was so exceptional. Benedicte, the owner of the hotel, was so nice, she met us, gave us a few advises on the restaurant and the city. The breakfast was so good. We really enjoyed our stay and we would certainly love to return.

Room view was excellent, very clean and comfortable overall. What I didn’t expect was the level of service from all staff, but especially the concierge. Francois and Julien were the most excellent concierge I’ve ever come across. Will stay in Villa Maia again when I go back Lyon just for the concierge team.

This is a beautiful historical building sympathetically converted into a luxury hotel. Understated elegance and vey calm considering the hustle and bustle just outside its doors. Location couldn’t be more perfect.

FAQs about hotels in Lyon

A Picturesque River City

Lyon is a gastronomic centre with a pretty architectural façade ranging from antiquity to modern day. Place Bellecour is centrally located between the Saône and Rhône Rivers in the 2nd arrondissement and opens out into major shopping streets.

On the banks of the Saône lies the district of Vieux Lyon, a great example of the Renaissance and full of museums such as the Lyon History Museum. Winding your way through the beautiful streets you can make your way up to the spectacular white-stone Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and look down over the city.

There is a lot going on in the main park of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, which is home to a zoo of exotic animals as well as various sports facilities and a large lake for boating. Boats of a different description are docked on the banks of the Rhône River; they host parties late into the night.

For a taste of tradition, Lyon’s famous bistros, or Bouchons Lyonnais, provide a cosy atmosphere for some of the best in French gastronomy. Plan your perfect holiday in one of Booking.com’s 130+ hotels, apartments or guest houses.

INTERESTING PLACE.

INTERESTING PLACE. Musee des Confluences had a lot of flair and creativity. We wished that we had had longer there. Museum of Fine Arts perhaps over-rated in previous reviews. The small restaurant "Le Saone" had much better food than anywhere else we ate. I strongly recommend it. It is new-ish. A walking tour by a knowledgeable DUTCH guide got us off to an excellent start on our first day.

The most interesting thing about being in Lyon was the "...

The most interesting thing about being in Lyon was the "traboules" in the Old Town. They were like a sort of secret passageway that connect the streets through the building. These passageways were used by silk mercants and later by the French Resistance during the World War II. Also, in the Old Lyon, the Cathedral of Saint-Jean, a majestic gothic cathedral and of course, the lovely Basilica of Fourvière, where the basicilica's splanade offeres increidble panoramic views of the city. Finally, right in the heart of the Croix Rousse district is the Canut Mural, a large mural that despicts the daily life of the neighbourhood's inhabitants. It's very cool.

Lyon is simply magical.

Lyon is simply magical. Like the Paris of old, but where the people are so friendly, we did not come across a single grumpy person. The food is unbelievable, visit a bouchon! The shopping is incredible! You'll need excess baggage. The sights and sounds are exhilarating. Take a river cruise!

Very cool, Historic City. Lots to see and do. We loved the Saône River cruise we took, the Place Bellecour as well as the Museum of Beaux Arts. We took the Funicular up to the top of the hill & the Cathedral of Notre Dame, which offers an amazing view of the entire City! OUr colleagues visited the Museum of the Confluence and said it was amazing too.

Fantastic vibe, wide variety of activities to enjoy and a wealth of cultural history - a friendly city that has so much more to offer than my teenage son and I had time for in our three-day trip! To foodie tip: check out the Cabanes restaurant on the Pres’quille - wonderful staff, great atmosphere and delicious, reasonably priced food! Travel around using the TCL tribu pass - it lasts a day (until midnight) and allows a family unlimited travel together on the metro, buses, trams and furniculars. It includes the C200 airport bus too! There’s an initial 20cent fee for the card itself, then you reload it daily for approx €7. Lugdunum was a great place to visit, use the funicular to travel up the hill - the sites themselves are free to explore. We also enjoyed the Parc de Tete d’or and took a pedal boat out on the lake for €20.

All the food and hospitality spots were amazing - food quality, variety and service were super. A visit to the Detention Centre/Resistance Museum was so interesting. We took a Viator trip to the Beaujolais Region, and it was fabulous - 2 great vineyards with Vladimir, the guide. The architecture of the city is stunning - all the different areas, particularly the Old part of the city. I loved the Cathedral and the Fourviere Basilica. The city felt very safe and is extremely clean. There were loads of outdoor activities. We discovered the Velov Bikes - electric and road bikes on our 2nd-to-last day, and it was wonderful - getting up to the Parc de la Tete d'Or and down to the confluence of the 2 rivers - so safe and what a buzz! I'll be back!

The location was perfect, very easy to reach the the city center and it was next to the Train Station (very good to take the TGV or any other train to visit cities around Lyon, as well as to take the express tram to the airport). The staff was very polite and helpful. The room was large, modern, comfortable and clean. The ammenities available are from an excellent French brand. For my future times in the city, I'd stay for sure in this hotel.

The location is very handy for the main train station and tram to the airport, with lots of buses nearby as well as a bike hire docking station immediately outside the hotel. Staff were helpful and efficient. It was good value for money, especially with the relatively generous check in and check out times. The AC also worked well during a heatwave. I can't speak to the breakfast as we wanted to explore Lyon's food scene.

The experience with this hotel was really nice. It is not 10 min walk from the station from where we took a bus to another city. The personnel is very helpful and nice. The room had everything needed and the breakfast was the best among all the hotels I stayed in during my trip to France. I booked the same hotel on the way back and can highly recommend it

There was a cockroach in our room when we checked in. When informing reception they didn't seem particularly bothered & even more so when I asked for the room to be changed. If it hadn't been that we were travelling through France & needed to sleep we would definitely have changed hotel.
