We were only going to stay one night in Marseille as our first impressions came from the crazed drive in but once in our accomodation at Hotel Estelle we discovered so much more that we couldn’t just stay one night. The tourist info was excellent and the maps of both town and bus routes was comprehensive. The tourist Office was close to our accomodation and also to the central intersection at the harbour, of many transport options. There is a cheap ferry ride across the waters and a bus ride back that gives a whole other perspective of the town. The bus to The Notre dame cathedral was so easy to find at the port and we’ll worth saving our feet that uphill climb and the views atop were excellent. Worth getting the 24hr transtix as it runs from when it is first used to 24 hours later (we did ours after our ferry ride at 3:00 pm and were able to use it the following day until 3;00pm which gave us almost two days worth of travel. Loved the trams as they were so easy to hop on and off of and are included in the transtix and took us out to the Palais Longchamps which was magnificent - get off at Longchamps (not 5 aves) to get the best initial view. Some amazing looking shops too - I wished i’d Had time to do more than briefly window shop.
A really beautiful city and I found the people so pleasant and helpful. Plenty to do and public transport very reasonable. I felt safe all the time but I wasn't out late at night. The only down side was so many homeless on the streets but you get that in most cities
It is actually a beautiful city and there is a lot to discover, but watch your valuables and check - possibly via the hotel - which parts of the city are safe for you. The vehicle was broken into in an allegedly guarded multi-storey car park. The parking garage is in the middle of the city center and costs extremely much for little or no service and performance. The police were powerless, so there is no point in filing a complaint at all. It is not for nothing that the city is one of the second most dangerous cities in Europe....
Marseille is a lively city with some lovely features, its walkable but does have a decent enough transport system.. There is good food and some great bars. Its a dirty city and really does need to be kept cleaner with rubbish just abandoned on the street and people freely just discard papers and cigarette ends as they stroll around. such a pity
WE took a hop-on/hop off for 19Euro pp. I think this is a good way of seeing most places especially getting to Notre Dame de la Garde as it's on a very, very steep hill. You can get off at other vantage points throughout the city and it's great for a stroll around. The Palais du Pharo is another stop and it's a lovely place to sit and admire the view. You don't need to spend money - Marseilles is a great place for walking around with great architecture. The Fort area is a lovely walk by the sea front and another stop on the hop on/hop off. We also took a boat trip around the bay for 11Euro pp which lasted 50 minutes and a great way to enjoy seeing Marseilles from the sea.
Marseille is a very controversial city. There are a lot of homeless people there. Just an entire army. The population is very mixed, just Noah's Ark. Not very clean. The criminal situation seems to be tense, too. But Marseille is great. There's an incredible atmosphere there. I don’t like big cities, but in Marseilles, wings just grew behind my back. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time for sightseeing. It's easy to spend a whole week there. And there are very friendly people there, if they are not marginalized. And the food there is delicious, almost everywhere.
Marseille
- The nicest aparthotel, i ever was :) - big, very clean and modern room - very friendly and helpful receptionists - there is a (nespresso-)coffee-machine and at the reception you can buy (not original nespresso) capsules - nice shower - very good location, between railway station and vieux port - i felt very secure there and at evenings there is sometimes a security guy at the door - because its very near to the vieux port and vieux ville its very near/easy to go somewhere for lunch or dinner
Marseille
Wonderful, spacious, stylish room with kitchen and lots of books! It is hard to describe how much more inviting and comfortable the room is than a normal hotel room. You're staying someplace with charm and character. It's also in a perfect location to explore all that the Vieux Port and Le Panier have to offer. The proprietors also provide a curated list of dining options to help choose where to eat.
I chose the hotel mainly for the central location. I knew that I will be out also during the night and Marseille is not the safest place in France. Let's start with the positive things: Staff was friendly, internet wifi was working well and the best thing was the breakfast. I was quite surprised that they even offered fresh pressed orange juice. The choice was really good for the level of the hotel!
Location - Fabulous! Balcony looked over the Vieux port and we had an amazing sunset! Parking was easy and a few streets away. The Restaurant below the Hotel 'Relais 50' was fine dining and absolutely wonderful. The Head waiter was incredible, knowledgeable and really entertained us (in English) with details about the food and wine. Superb experience!
Good breakfast. Hotel is an art Gallery. Room decorated in Mauresque fashion, very pretty. High ceilings should be good when weather is hot, however in fall it is ok as the bedding is warm. Super nice garden. Centrally located, not far from Vieux Port and even closer from metro station Noailles. Close to Cours Julien with its numerous terraces and bars.
Beautiful, grand hotel in the heart of Vieux Port. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Great for my toddler to run around and play. Great for family gathering. Excellent service. Excellent breakfast. Everything about the stay was perfect! I would highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel is stylish and has a good Lebanese restaurant. The car park adjacent to the hotel is very easily accessed - step-free, making it easy to roll luggage. The rooms are comfortable and airy. The staff was competent. The walk to the Vieux Port from the hotel is pleasant.
the location is awesome, Ⓜ️🚍1min from the metro 1, and from the bus stop 🌊you have the vieux port view 🥐we took our breakfast at 1860 palais, just next to the hotel with the sea view 💬the staff were friendly, and helpful 🔍loved the interior, aesthetic and clean
For our last night in France visiting Marseille, this hotel was great! Very spacious room, comfy beds and cleam modern bathrrom. We were able to get parking for a fee. Location of walking distance to Velodrome and its surroundings for sightseeing.
Marseille
The appartment at Breteuil is perfectly located, right in Vieux Port, to see most iconic places in Marseille. The appartment itself works perfectly for a couple or a pair of friends. The views from the window make you feel like a true marseillese.
convenient to the train station and not far from the Vieux Port. Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke English. The breakfast was good value. there is a separate lounge and coffee at front desk. It was quiet. Good internet and tv.
Marseille
Amazing Location. Quiet and peaceful garden in the center of the "Panier" area. 5 min walk from "Le vieux port". Our hosts were very welcoming and nice, with a lot of great recommendations (restaurants, visits, etc.)
Very good location right across from Gare Central, metro and near tram lines. Very nice staff. Superb breakfast. Short walk to central Marseille and about twenty minutes to Vieux Port area.
Room with a view that enabled to see the vieux port. Near to the city centre; Marseille is a real city (not a museum piece)
Location: centred of Marseille by the Vieux Port Pool: roof top pool with sun ! Suitcase storage service
Very comfortable rooms very close to the Vieux Port
