FAQs about hotels in Provence

The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis

With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.

Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.

But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.

For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.

From blue sea to rocky mountains, Provence has something for everyone’s taste. So does Booking.com: over 2000 properties in the region, from hotels with pools to cosy bed & breakfasts for your perfect Provence holiday.

Everything!!!! First thing I’d like to say is that, as we set off for the campsite our satnav said we will arrive at 1600hrs. Last check-in on the campsite was 1800hrs so all was good! Throughout the journey, traffic was heavy with everyone heading South for the Summer. I sent a message to the owner and he told me he would wait for me until 1900hrs. Then there was an accident and huge delays which meant we didn’t arrive at the site until 2230hrs. The husband and wife team were waiting for us and greeted us with open arms and a bottle of rosé wine to welcome us to their site. I have also read other reviews that have stated the site is on a main road and it’s noisy….. we genuinely forgot that we were close to the road. Occasionally we would hear a loud motorbike but didn’t feel loud to us at all. Maybe if you live somewhere quiet and rural you would not like the main road, it didn’t bother us at all. We got fresh bread delivered early morning, there is a pool table in reception. There is a little shop for essentials at reception. There is a kids play area and a gorgeous peaceful pool with no deep end so it feels safe for kids but also great for swimming lengths for fitness too. There is a free shuttle bus into town all day every day. We stayed in a lovely 3 double bedroom caravan which was perfect - very clean and all the utilities needed. The outdoor seating area on the caravan was huge; half sheltered and half not. I read a previous review about the caravans being close together and you can hear everything your neighbours are saying. This is not true. Unless you have very noisy neighbours. Yes the caravans are quite close but the outdoor tables and chairs are at opposite end to your neighbours so we didn’t hear any of our neighbours conversations. This isn’t a huge busy campsite; it is a small, personal campsite which is perfectly situated 10 minutes drive from Cassis and within short distance of some of the biggest cities on the south coast of France.

An exceptional hotel, situated in its own vineyard. The location is fabulous, the food as very good and the wine of course is from their own production. Our stay included a complementary wine tasting in the vineyard shop (across the road). The Manager went out of her way to ensure all food requests were met. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, and there is a swimming pool for guests. The water was a little warmer than my taste, but I am sure most guests will like it that way. We stayed for four nights

Truly an incredible hotel, I am fortune to stay in a lot of great ones, but this exceeded my expectations. Beautiful decor, amazing facilities, a great sensitivity for the volume of the space. Attentive staff, wonderful location, clear, quiet, nice guests, excellent restaurants and good. While the hotel was full, it never felt busy, a very impressive accomplishment. Spa is fantastic, we had a number of treatments. I 100% will be staying again.

Had the best 4 days. Wished we could have stayed longer. 20 to 40 min walk from cassis depending on where you go in the town but great regular bus service for less than €1 in 15 minutes if dont want to walk. Excellent hosts, spotless apartments and the pool was divine in 35° heat. We just loved it and cant wait to go back.

Beautiful little city with lots of history and important sites to visit. Delightful little streets full of character and charm. It’s easy to trace the time that Van Gogh lived there. Excellent restaurants with some serving cheaper menus such as the Creperie next to the Arles Amphitheatre. I even managed a bus ride to St Remy (704 - stop Republic) for a very cheap price. The location on the Rhone is also a bonus. Next time I will visit the Camargue.

The town streets are free of litter and every street is beautiful… lovely boutique shops, an abundance of quaint restaurants. It is a happy decadent space full of excited people. Nothing is cheap, but everything is of good quality. The Saturday/Tuesday market is AMAZING. Good quality items & food. Not a “made in China” market. There are a couple of free public beaches, otherwise the beach clubs….. which are very difficult to contact to reserve a beach day….I would advise booking beach club days before you arrive! For a short stay I would say minimum four nights, a week is a good timespan. Traffic is horrendous… I would not recommend a hired car. Rather walk, Bolt, hire a scooter.

It is a lovely town, good start base to visit other places in the Cote d'azur because it was not as crowded and more affordable than Cannes, Nice ,St. Tropez or Antibes. The various towns are well-connected via train or the Blue or Green Boats (Bateaux bleus ou Bateaux Verts)

- large apartment - air conditioning in every room - luxuriously furnished - separate beds for children - close to aqualand, funfair and go-karts. It’s a lovely area.

It’s a lovely area. The town is pretty and has something for everyone: plenty of shopping including a market, loads of restaurants, lots of different beaches, a marina, an arena for shows including Camargue horses and bulls, plenty of places offering horse rides and tons of ice cream parlours! We love Cabanes de Cacherel for horseriding. We love to see the rodeo at the arena. Our favourite beach is to the far west of the town on the route de l’Aramee. We tried out tubing on the back of a speedboat at Aquaglisse which was fun. A tour of a manade gives you great insight into the economy of the area and is wonderful - we recommend Manade de Layalle : Mathieu is a brilliant character. We also ventured to the Camarkas Equestrian Theatre which is a great night out. Both these last two are a 10-15 minute ride out of town. Further afield Aigues Mortes is well worth a visit for its amazing medieval splendour, as is a trip around the surreal landscapes of the salt pans. This is our third year to visit Camargue - there is so much to do and see. What I have detailed above is just the last 4 days we spent there. By the way we have three tween/teenagers to entertain and they keep begging to go back to Saintes Maries de la Mer.
