Set in the village of Great Barton, Tollgate Lodge - Private Studio Apartment features free on-site parking and free Wi-Fi. On the outskirts of the beautiful market town of Bury St. Pretty much everything was perfect for us. So much better than going to a general hotel. Little touches like having milk in the fridge and board games/ dvds available made it more of a home from home feel. Thankyou to very understanding and accommodating hosts!

Bury Saint Edmunds (Near Ixworth)
The Grange Hotel, an attractive Tudor-style country house hotel, lies in Thurston in the heart of Suffolk. The hotel is set in its own secluded gardens amid open countryside. Nice country hotel with slightly old-school charm a short, 10-minute drive away from Bury St Edmunds and offering decent value for money. The room was clean, the hotel itself as well. It was also quiet, the view to the garden was nice, parking space was plentiful and the countryside surroundings nice (although we didn't get to go for a walk).

I enjoyed a couple of evening meals at The Greyhound, the food served was clearly made with local produce (Ham and sausages), it was freshly prepared and very tasty. The village itself is a very pleasant English village with a few nice pubs, hopefully the small restaurants will be reopened soon (Covid 19 permitting!), it has a lovely gentle rolling road through the village, very little traffic so great for an evening or morning stroll.
We did not eat anywhere in the village as was meeting family at a nearby hotel. Ixworth is a lovely village to drive through and the surrounding countryside is very pretty. The village is very clean and appealing to the eye
Pretty little village and the church in the village is worth a visit on its own. The Den is within walking distance if you want a meal or a drink in one of the 2 pubs, or a Chinese takeaway or fish and chips.
Ixworth is a small village, few facilities, it has 2 pubs, 1 is a typical boozer ok for a pint and a game of pool or darts. The other is a little more up market, although the prices are almost the same. There is a Chinese takeaway although I did not use it, however it was extremely busy so I guess it must be ok. I found the locals extremely friendly and although travelling alone I had a very enjoyable evening.
Easy access from Bury, not a long drive at all because of the main road, which you don't hear from this property. Some gorgeous old buildings I'd like to have explored more, as well as a couple of old pubs that looked well worth a visit. I'm just sorry I couldn't stay longer
It was my first time visiting Ixworth and what a lovely place it is. Nicely tucked away from the busy Bury St Edmunds. I never got the chance to explore the local area as only stayed the 1 night but would love to return. Thoroughly recommend The Den for somewhere to stay & the breakfast and coffee was deelish!! A warm welcome and a home from home feeling.
