Ivy House Country Hotel, hotel in Lowestoft

Enjoy a tranquil Broadside setting and beautiful country gardens at this hotel hidden away at the end of a leafy driveway The hotel’s restaurant is located within an attractive 18th century thatched ...

The staff were all so lovely and welcoming, you felt like they were genuinely happy to see you. The grounds are stunning and although in a rural location it's just a short walk from the station so accessible by public transport. The barn is a beautiful dinner location and we enjoyed the food, very generous portions and tasty and good value! Huge rooms, nice, bright and clean. A pleasant walk to Oulton Broad and the Carlton Marshes nature reserve, the paths were trainer friendly so you can make the most of your country retreat without too much kit!

Best Western Hotel Hatfield, hotel in Lowestoft

With views across the sea, Best Western Hotel Hatfield offers free parking, a restaurant and a terrace bar.

The hotel has a great location overlooking the beach and sea, on the front promenade quite central with the town centre just a few minutes walk away. The bar and restaurant are always open for guests and non staying guests alike. The menu has a good variety of dishes to choose from and are all prepared to a high standard. Customers have the option of dining inside near the bar area or outside where a decked area with conservatory are also available. For people with mobility/access issues there is also a ramp up to the decked area and bar. And in addition the hotel now offers stays in the newly acquired lodge rooms on the road opposite. Again this is a great option for people with mobility issues. If you are staying B&B the breakfast is amazing, and will fill you up for the rest of the day! 😀

My visit was primarily to reach the most easterly spot in British Isles. That location on the Ness was anti-climatic; the actual site has a large compass rose on the prom, but has damage to the center. I found the Maritime museum, the scores and the old high street of great interest. As an OAP, I often think that places like Lowestoft have a more robust past than present; and fear for it's future.

Highly recommend a visit to Mark G.

Highly recommend a visit to Mark G. Best restaurant I've been to in months. And if you find that surprising for Lowestoft, you might be under-estimating the town, too. Especially with its lifeguard lookouts, the fabulous South Beach reminded me of my favourite South Beach, even if it did lack the palm trees and the Art Deco, boutique hotels. Mind you, I very much enjoyed my stay at the Hatfield (Best Western), which also did some good food and had a reasonably priced, well balanced menu for all meals and snacks.

Lowestoft is a stretched out place of a town then a harbour then the beach. The beach and promenade is its best asset. Along with Ness Point for the sunrise the morning after summer solstice. It beats Stonehenge for calm and still beauty at the most easterly point. The beach further along the coast is gorgeous. Lots of lovely cafes and icecream places but the most exceptional being The Thatch. Fantastic staff fantastic food perfect location 😃

We enjoyed the walk from Pakefield Caravan Park along the sandy beach with marram grass into Lowestoft with the dog. Several colourful beach huts and a lighthouse. All Saints and St Margaret's church was pretty. The Jolly Sailor pub is recommended but as we only had 2 days in the locality, we didn't have time to visit. We didn't eat out so can't comment on local pubs/eateries other than to say we had a few drinks and games of pool in the Plough and Sail which was enjoyable. Lowestoft has plenty of shops and is easily accessible.

Lowestoft is a busy working port.

Lowestoft is a busy working port. It has stunning beaches with golden sands. We have family who chose to live there so we are lucky enough to visit them often. We are wildlife lovers so there are so many places to visit a ride away like Minsmere and Carlton Marshes and the Norfolk coast. The trip boat for Oulton Broad goes from right outside the Wherry Hotel and smaller boats can be hired.

We have family and friends in lowestoft so this was a great place for us to stay. it's location isn't far from any thing that we wanted to do. From visiting the beach, go into town, pleasurewood hills, and going to the pleasure beach in yarmouth, we even to Oulton broad and walked along the canal and finished up with a lovely carvey at the "wherry hotel"

As a vegetarian I did wonder whether the hotel would cater to me, they did have vegetarian sausages and the breakfast was very nice. When we go back to Lowestoft for a weekend break we will be going back to the Clyffe Hotel as it was very good value for money.
