Around 7 minutes’ drive from Sherwood Forest, The Maypole at Wellow is a former coaching inn offering elegant rooms and high-quality dining. We had two rooms in the annex. The soundproofing was amazing! The rooms were super clean and very comfortable. The staff were fabulous. They were so friendly and helpful, really making you feel at home.

In the heart of Sherwood Forest, The Dukeries Lodge is situated in scenic Edwinstowe. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very very nice. Maiden Marion room was just beautiful. Food in the dining room was excellent. Staying at the Dukeries hotel was like a vacation in it self.
Lavender House is located in Edwinstowe. Located 2.6 mi from Sherwood Forest, the property features a garden and free private parking. I loved EVERYTHING about this property and we will definitely stay here again. The house smelt so clean and fresh on arrival and we felt at home within a very short time. All the furniture, crockery, cutlery, appliances, bedding, towels, carpets etc etc are of the highest quality and exceptionally clean. Every conceivable extra is provided and the bed in the room at the rear is the most comfortable I've ever slept in!. This property is a credit to its owners and they should feel very proud for providing such a top quality home-from-home. I can't wait to stay here again!
We stayed at this location because of its proximity to the Sherwood Forest Crematorium (less than a mile). The village of Wellow is very pretty and the Old Red Lion pub there provides excellent food served by friendly staff. If staying at the Maypole Inn I would avoid their breakfast, which was appalling.
A walk around the old town doesn't take long, but there are some interesting buildings to see. The mill run and the river border a small piece of land where there are a couple of benches. The old mill is a tea shop, which looked very nice, but sadly we were too late arriving before the closed notice appeared at the entrance. There are public areas nearby for walking which relate to the old railway.
Ollerton is the perfect location for all the local attractions. We traveled less than 20 minutes in any direction to the places we wanted to visit. Wheelgate Park, Sherwood Pines, GoApe, Clumber Park and Centre Parcs to name just a few things. Ollerton is a lovely village setting with its own local charm too.
Ollerton itself is not particularly attractive, but the Hotel is at Wellow, a village just outside the town. It is an exquisite small English village with a maypole on the green. There are many attractions scattered around the area, including the best unspoilt and original part of Sherwood Forest, accessible from nearby Edwinstowe, itself an attractive small town.
Delightful village with Hop Pole hotel food excellent and very inexpensive. Italian restaurant also excellent. Both well worth a visit.l Ollerton ideal for getting out and about as it is on the Xroads to lots of places and right on the edge of Sherwood Forest.
The quiet and relaxing location , the closeness to the woods and excellent walks , what a gem of a place 10 out 10 , the staff was very welcoming and advised us on walks and the history of the place, we enjoyed the bats at night , the staff was very warm and friendly
This was a great stay for a family event, the hotel called before to check if we required a meal, and a night porter was available for our (very late) arrival. We took a superior double which is a truly lovely room with an amazing bathroom. All the staff we met were lovely including a very helpful cleaner. If your travels take you past Wellow you could do a lot worse than the Maypole, highly recommended
Comfortable, lots of character, well equipped, Fireplace was a bonus, and added atmosphere. Low doorways were a challenge for some, but are part of the appeal of the cottage.
