The location is central to the town and close to the rail station for those wanting to take the steam train to Whitby. The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond to make me feel very welcome. My room was clean, comfortable and quiet with tea & coffee making facilities, a bar fridge and a minibar. The bed was sleep inducing.

This is a beautiful gastropub with high quality accommodation. We stayed in a room with a small, private garden and it was all very well presented. The staff members were all helpful, professional and happy to have a chat with guests. The food was great and locally-sourced where possible. The Horseshoe is a fantastic base from which to explore this part of Yorkshire.

Breakfast was good porridge was excellent, Dinner in the snug room really good atmosphere with two other couples and plenty of chat between us all, which ended up beside the fire near the bar. It felt like being in your own home chatting with friends. We were at the top of the house nice good size room with bath and shower. One of the housekeepers showed me room 1 which I would love to have if I am there again. Of course it was the TV show Bangers and Cash that brought us there, as also the two other couples we met, all classic car lovers. Simon and his gang and super.

It’s a lovely small town with some nice local walks. However public transport is infrequent so I would recommend a car for getting around. The moors bus only seems to run at weekends, and other local buses are difficult to plan return trips on due to the irregularity.

Pickering is a very nice small town, with a couple of pubs and several restaurants. the town centre is set on a hillside. getting around the town is easy on foot or mobility scooter. There is the Beck Isle museum and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as local activities and other attractions in the surrounding areas.

This is a lovely, clean little village with plenty of charm.

This is a lovely, clean little village with plenty of charm. We were surprised that many of the cafés and shops were closed, even on weekdays. We stayed for four nights and used the village as a base to explore the North York Moors, visiting many of the surrounding villages as well as the coastal towns. We also completed a beautiful 9-mile walk around Levisham. As a very active family, we found we were able to see everything we wanted in a shorter time than expected. For us, 2 nights and 3 days would have been the ideal length of stay, so 4 nights and 5 days felt a little longer than necessary. However, if you prefer a slower pace or enjoy spending more time relaxing, a longer stay would be ideal.

Our first visit and Pickering proved to be a delightful small town offering a variety of things to do - a small Monday market, a museum, plenty of choice to eat out , the North Moors Railway and, especially the church with its rare Medieval wall paintings. Also a very convenient base for exploring other parts of N Yorkshire.

Perfect location for visiting a wide range of places such as Reivaulx Abbey, Whitby, Scarborough Pickering castle and the NYMR. In its own rights it is a picturesque small market town with a wide range of independent shops and eateries.

The Yorkshire Auction House with Angus Ashworth.

The Yorkshire Auction House with Angus Ashworth. The N.Y.M.R. to Whitby. A day out to Flamborough Head,Filey or Bridlington. Also a day out to Castle Howard. You can also go to the Rydale Show in May at Duncombe Park and the Steam Gala in July in Helmsley. There is plenty to do staying here.Plenty of pubs serving food in Wrelton and Sinnington then you have Pickering and Kirbymoorside. A week in this area is not enough time to do and see everything.
