Stornoway is a compact town, with good local pubs and restaurants. Lews Castle and its grounds and museum is well worth a visit. I also went to a folk music concert at the An Lanntair theatre which was excellent (I also enjoyed a pre- show meal there in its Thai Cafe). Stunning part of the world. So much more to see than we had time for, a week would have been amazing! Beckett's do a fab breakfast, not many other places open before 9am. Stornoway is a hidden gem in the Outer Hebrides. We stayed at Lew's Castle, (beautiful property), and we explored some of the island. If I planned the trip again, I'd have added a few more days here, (we did 3, would have enjoyed at least 2 more). The standing stones, the beaches, the people - all amazing! Our only problem was not making dinner reservations the first day we were there. Cruise ships now stop there, so reservations are a must when they are in town. Atractive river front with castle and gardens one side, shops and restaurants the other. HS1 cafe and Boathouse recommendation were good places to refuel. Initially I was given one of the older rooms but the kind receptionist swopped for one of the newer rooms I had on my last visit - this made a big difference as the view was pleasant and the room light and airy.
