The restaurant's dinner was outstanding. Three of us had the Chateaubriand "special," and we agreed that it was the best meal we had on our 10 day trip. The meat was perfectly cooked and the presentation was gorgeous.
One night was very rainy so it was great that the hotel had a Scrabble game available in the lounge. Also, we thought the garden was lovely (too wet and cold to use when we visited), and it was nice that so many people (and their dogs) came to tea or drinks in the bar. We met several locals in the bar and had fun with them.
The location on High Street was great because we didn't have a car and the village is charming. (We hired a taxi to take us to/from Highgrove and pick us up at the train station in Kemble.) At the Tourist office we learned of a concert at the local Community Center and it was fantastic--so glad we went. It would be great if he hotel could have a "local events today/tomorrow" board to advertise things to do that we might not otherwise know about...
In gardens and woodland, the Hare & Hounds is a charming, traditional English country house hotel, with a popular restaurant and bar. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is half a mile away.

Breakfast was excellent. I was unexpectedly delayed and a staffer stayed up to let me into my room at 12:30 a.m. Another staffer drove me to the Highgrove gardens when it became evident that there would be no taxi service that day. I was also driven to the Kemble train station when my trip was finished. I was very grateful for all these extras. It had not occurred to me that I would not be able to take a taxi or bus--Tetbury is tiny. The Royal Oak is located a 5-minute walk from the little town.

We've been traveling across Europe and the UK for weeks. Queen Matilda's was one of our favorite places. Jo was a lovely host, very genuine, informative about the area, and gave us a fantastic breakfast before we said good-bye.
The room was beautiful, bed and linens were so comfortable. Can't say enough good things about it.

Tetbury is a lovely little town, filled with shops and antique stores. Best thing to visit: King Charles' estate, Highgrove, to see the gardens. You will need to purchase a ticket ahead of time from their website. Plan to visit the property's little restaurant for Afternoon Tea, and visit the gift shop.
Important: Taxis are not always available, which means you must drive to Tetbury or beg a ride from your hotel staff, as I did.

Parking can be difficult even though there are at least 2 car parks.
Tetbury is mostly antique shops with a handful of independent traders.
There is often a market on in the covered market square.
Parking on the street is limited to 1 hour.

Tetbury could well be called the antiques capital of the Cotswolds. I managed to visit over 12 antiques shops, most of them on Long Street. If you're not a huge fan of antiques though, I'm not sure Tetbury would be for you. It's a quaint and pretty enough town, but no more so than other towns in the Cotswolds.
I only ate there once (at Lola & Co) but the food was excellent.
Parking is easy as there are plenty of places to park for free (I parked on Gumstool Hill).
The weather was dreadful when I arrived (in the middle of Storm Ciaran), so I didn't get a chance to look around as much as I would have liked.
I used Tetbury as a base to visit the rest of the Cotswolds. It's at the Southern end of the Cotswolds so if you're planning to visit places like Bibury and Chipping Campden which are further north, then it can be a bit of a drive (over an hour) and you may want to be more centrally located.

Tetbury is small but characterful place; we loved the independent feeling and atmosphere. It’s also a great spot for getting round the Cotswolds. The range of evening dinner options actually in town (as opposed to a short drive away) is fairly limited though from a family perspective- booking a table in advance is recommended.
The Close is perfect for a break in the country but as you are right in the middle of a lovely market town, Tetbury, there are things to do on the doorstep. The hotel is a great combination of traditional and modern. The building is an old family residence and the layout reflects that, but the bedroom furniture is more modern and comfortable. The staff were excellent, very attentive, helpful and friendly. The food was really good, especially breakfasts, we ate in the lounge bar which was warm and cosy, as we had our dog with us.
A boutique country house hotel built with traditional Cotswold stone. Comfortable bar with a wide selection of drinks. Elegant restaurant with a fine ambience. Excellent choice of food. Friendly staff who go all out to please customers. Large, comfortable well-appointed rooms. Excellent for a visit to Westonburt Arboretum, Badminton horse trials, Cheltenham racecourse etc.
Trouble house is an excellent place to stay. The bedroom was beautiful and the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and had a very good shower. The hostess Jacque was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was superb. It is close to Tetbury and in a good location for visiting many places in the Cotswolds.
The hotel was sooo cosy. The staff were the best ever, so friendly and helpful and caring, Natalie in particular was just wonderful. Would recommend a stay at the Priory Inn.
