Thaxted is a wonderful historic town with lots of attractive...
Thaxted is a wonderful historic town with lots of attractive old buildings, an old church and a mill (though under refurbishment currently).
Sadly there is no coffee or tea shop any more.
There are a couple of interesting gift shops.
The main road is quite busy and noisy.
Thaxted is quite hilly.
It's on a flight path, so aeroplane noise is almost constant.

To visit Thaxted you do need your own transport.
To visit Thaxted you do need your own transport. The nearest Rail Station is at Stansted Airport, with a bus going to the Town once an hour. If you want somewhere quiet before flying to or from the Airport then Thaxted is only 20 minutes out and is a quiet little Town.

Excellent value for money very comfortable and would recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area. Very spacious and clean accommodation. Details on booking.com regarding distance from Stansted airport misleading the property is about 19 miles away and not 4.

It is a lovely little village, although because it has a Guild Hall it is actually a Town. Transport is a bit of a problem there although they do have 2 buses running through. The best way to get there, if you are not driving, is to get the train to Stansted Airport and use the bus service or get a taxi

Wanted to provide that manager Robert and all of staff at the swan hotel where absolutely outstanding, I had some luggage lost from my trip here, all staff provided me support and asking everyday if they could help me in anyway. Was attending to my brother's wedding and had all of my wedding outfits lost with my luggage. Yet again the staff at the swan provided me with support. Would stay here again, food is outstanding. The swan should be rated with the highest rating possible. Thanks for a wonderful stay, my luggage showed up one day before my brother's wedding.

Lovely lady on reception.
Lovely lady on reception. All staff helpful and made me very welcome. Nothing too much trouble. Lovely old building and was great having a bath and shower. Will look to return to explore villages which looked lovely as only booked for airport stay night before a flight at Stansted on this occasion.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, large shower.We were advised of the church bells directly opposite, ringing every hour, however, as we were at the back of the hotel we were not disturbed. The dining area had a good choice of evening meals which were very reasonably priced and very tasty. Staff were lovely

The hotel was very comfortable and friendly. The staff were all very attentive and helpful. The food I had was very good, a very well cooked steak. My room was very clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. I would definitely stay again.
