Such a lovely little village with plenty of shops. East Quay was a great place to visit as lots of arts exhibitions and a great little cafe. Got the local bus to Minehead which was no hassle at all. Visited the boat museum/information centre was was great. Highly recommend.
The Somerset coast is mostly rocky, so Watchet is not a sandy seaside place. Small town, with useful eateries, Williton, nearby. has a supermarket, bank and filling station There are buses, plus the West Somerset railway, but to explore the area properly, personal transport is a must.
Everyone seemed so friendly, always someone new talking to us, really nice pubs, food at the London Inn was excellent and the Spice Indian restaurant was really good also, Loved the Pebbles real ale/cider bar and the Esplanade bar as well. Took a train ride from Minehead to Watchet also which was really nice, walking to Minehead and Kilve beach was great although a shame there is a rockfall towards Minehead so a long road section.
Sleepy little place , very low key, which we liked. Not too crowded We had some nice meals and found the local people very friendly Personally we think the new development on the marina looks like slotted together Lego and totally out of keeping Would stay in Watchet again
Beautiful place to visit but the one thing that could be improved would be the pub food , very disappointing in every pub we went in and to be honest the cafe's weren't much better no one seems to know how to cook a sausage . The Indian on the other hand was excellent ,beautifully cooked food , if only the rest were as good we would have given 5 stars , very friendly welcoming locals , very active community , lovely museums ( make sure you check out the radio museum tucked in a back street ) .
I remember Watchet years ago as a rather scrubby place, but it's clearly on the up. The promenade is very pleasant, with a local market on some mornings. There's a choice of places to eat and drink, The views from the harbour are impressive. All the people we met there were friendly and helpful. Much enjoyed watching the old steam train pull away from the station. It looks as if the marina area is being developed. It would have been good to have stayed there a bit longer and maybe looked for some fossils from the adjacent beach. There's a good Co-op, and the person who runs the post office is very helpful and gives excellent service.
Watchet
Very clean and comfortable property, with all the rooms a good size, light and bright. Amy made us feel very welcome and we appreciated the milk and treats left in the kitchen when we arrived. The location is good; very peaceful and just 5 minutes' walk from the harbour and Watchet town centre. There are plenty of places to visit in the area and good opportunities for walking; the Quantock Hills and Exmoor are within easy reach.
The couple that run the hotel are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was excellent, wine selection pretty good, and the bed was comfortable. Good location close to the coast.
