Situated at the foothills of Mount Psiloritis, just a few metres from Zaros village, Idi Hotel is a family-run hotel offering traditional accommodation. Very nice breakfast! The room (studio for 3) was ideal for traveling with 11yr old child! Good swimmingpool ! We had room 242, it had beautiful views !
Situated in Zarós, Zaros features accommodation with private balconies. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, room service and a tour desk, along with free WiFi. Very friendly staff/owners, super breakfast, lovely room with traditional furniture and character, like a mountain resort.
The Nana Apartments are ideally located in a green valley amidst the beautiful mountain surroundings around Zaros village in Crete, which is at an altitude of 340 metres. Excellent establishment run by a family that oozes Cretan hospitality. Nana is present and makes sure your stay is extra enjoyable. Just a lovely spot run by wonderful people.
Quiet mountain town famous for plentiful supply of mineral water. Very friendly helpful locals. Great views of soaring mountains above. Centre for many fine Cretan natural products from dried herbs to Olive Oils. Try the local Trout for Dinner.
Zaros is a typical small Creten town with little to recommend it. The Idi Hotel is another world. I wouldn't recommend Zaros for anything. but the hotel could be used as a base for many of the activities below.
We were only there for one night, en route to SE Crete and wanted a night in the mountains. From the room's balcony we had a magnificent view of the mountains. The beds were not only real antiques, but very comfortable, We ate at Vegera taverna and had our best meal in Crete. (especially as there were 2 vegetarians in the party! Vivi is a great cook and a lovely person and Georgios couldn't have been nicer.
Seems totally unaffected by the relatively small number of tourists and gets on with its life quite happily, Kermos rooms are excellent with visits to its farm a great addition. Good walking, some beautiful churches and not far from some major sites plus the Saturday market at Moiries. Our second visit and we will be back just to sit outside the cafeneion kept by Dimitris the Fox and watch the late night traffic and listen to the chat
Zaros was very small and mostly tavernas. The locals seemed to have a lot of free time and spent it sitting on the streets. They were all polite and friendly however they stared at us a lot and this made me feel somewhat uncomfortable! One man even reached out and stroked my arm! There were cash points and garages plus small mini market shops. Tavernas offered an excellent range of food. The town did not look attractive, but the surroundings were stunning.
We walked up to the lake from the town. Then from there a hike to the monetary. It was a round trip 9 km. Best food since we have been in Greece. Vegera!! They serve whatever is fresh at the moment family style! Lots of food, wonderful staff and best taste!! They have their own farm!!

Grounds are lovely, pool refreshing! Hotel is series of concrete blocks set around large garden open space, all painted in lovely colors. At first glance “modern” but we quickly found it comfy and pleasant. We had a second floor room with balcony - very nice. Good spot to relax and to use as base for sightseeing (45 minute drive to Aghia Galini) and Rouvas Gorge hike. Village has several taverns. Could have stayed here longer: excellent place to enjoy Crete. Good breakfast.

The rooms were immaculate. Dimitris and the owner were welcoming and thoughtful. The breakfast overlooking the village was one of the best we had on Crete - the dakos and yogurt the best we had. Zaros was a highlight of our Cretan holiday.

The best breakfast i ever had in a hotel. Freshly baked traditional pies with local food material from the owners farm. What else can you ask? and only for 5 euros!!
