I didn't like anything about this hotel. I would recommend going to Rinjani Lodge or Pondok Senaru Cottages. You'll be treated very well there!

Ila Homestay, hotel in Senaru

Featuring mountain views, Ila Homestay in Senaru features accommodation, a garden, a terrace and a restaurant. The lodge features both WiFi and private parking free of charge.

We really loved Ila homestay. The owner Jull was good on WhatsApp and very welcoming when we got there. There was an attention to detail in his explanation of the trek we were going to do and he checked thoroughly that we were ok with the plan. He gave us earplugs for the sound of the morning call to prayer. Nun (Jull’s wife)’s cooking was absolutely delicious. What a place! Complete with a passion fruit tree and the fascinating call of a tokay gecko. The trek was great too. We had Awal as our guide. With 20 years of experience, knowledge, good English and a natural sense of care for his clients, he was perfect. My three sons and I were challenged but in a good way! The porters cooked incredible food for us and camping on the crater rim was an unforgettable experience. Imagine this position for a camping toilet!

Bukit Senaru Homestay, hotel in Senaru

Situated in Senaru and only less than 1 km from Sindang Gila Waterfall, Bukit Senaru Homestay features accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking.

Lovely garden, in easy walking distance of waterfalls. Staff very nice, always ready to make tea or pick a papaya from the garden. The owner Bembem also organised our Rinjani hike, which all went very smoothly, however I found by asking other hikers that we paid well over market rate. I would wait to book the hike from Senaru and compare prices, don’t believe it when you are told the tickets will run out if you don’t book immediately.

Beautiful waterfall and hiking, but to many “helpers” trying to make a block off too few tourist a few days before hiking season, around town. They are very nice but it was sad to have to say no thank you so much.

The waterfall walk at Senaru was a bit slippery, and the trek to the main waterfall requires sensible shoes and includes crossing the creek, so you will get wet feet. We didn't use a guide but reccommend you do as it is not always clear where to go. We also uses the scooter riders instead of waling back up the hill. Well worth it, some great views over the valley, but the track is narrow and steep on one side so if you are afraid of heights maybe think twice.

If you like traveling more locally and away from tourists, this is the place. The staff are very welcoming to tourists to join them for meals or guitar playing, or tea. It is up in the mountains with gorgeous views.

Senaru is still a relatively unspoilt Lombok town, and the main 'base camp' for treks up the mighty Rinjaru. A wide selection of eateries, with those on the north side of the road overlooking a jungle gorge. In the town the waterfalls are worth a look as well. Most people only stay the night before their trek, and then leave the mountain following. I stayed three nights and its worth it if you have some nice accommodation to shower, rest and recover from your trek. Well worth a look and a stay.
