The scenery in Keel and the whole of Achill Island is stunning.....imposing mountains, sheer cliffs, fabulous bogs and attractive beaches. We did a couple of really enjoyable walks starting off at Dugort, one a loop walk that went through a peat bog (on a dry path, about 45 minutes) and another that took us to the deserted village (about 1 and a half hours there and back).
Gielty's pub was a warm and friendly place for dinner and The Beehive was good for a lighter meal or coffee. Back on the mainland Ballycroy National Park has a fabulous cafe, Ginger and Wild, which served the best vegetable soup ever, great after a walk on the nearby boardwalk.
There are several art galleries in the area that are worth a visit.
