Shikara ride is the most impressive - we went on a Shikara ride both in the evening (sun down) and in the afternoon (sunny) and the lake offered great scenery both the times. there were vendors with floating markets in the middle of the lake - was a very cool offering. Botanical gardens and flora in general are very impressive. Pahalgam was dusty and an uphill task to ride till the Swiz garden but an adventurous experience. Shankaracharaya temple on the hilltop is a very positive place and offered great aerial view of the valley. Mosques are also built in huge areas and provide a good ambience.AnkIndia - Scored 1010

Dal lake tours offered open water with mountain views and smaller canals to explore, and early morning veg market for those who don't mind a 4 a.m. start. Wonderful crafts and food. I liked nature.
I liked nature. But truly saying the People of Srinagar are very very very bad. They have just 1 thing in their mind that Kashmir hamara hai. Yahan bas ghoomne aao aur bhaago yahan se. Every time every person is asking for BAKSHISH like Beggars. Nature have given them a lot and they are eating of it. They dont know how to speak with love to customers. Charge extra for everything. Want free tips. Such a Waste trip.

Keep low expectations for the beauty, Dal Lake is dirty and need massive clean up. facilities for families (especially ladies) are very basic and unhygienic. Food is over priced. Phalgam is overrated. Gulmarg cable car ride is ok if not crowded. Mughal gardens in the city are not so great after these many years. The main attractions here is the shikara ride on the dal lake. It's an exhilarating experience especially towards the evening when the twilight of the sunset alleviates the splendor of everything in sight. Definitely a experience that should not be missed. There are a lot of gardens like Cheshma Shahi, Shalimar, Nishat, Tulips, etc. They are all very beautiful but almost the same.... you seen one, you seen them all. I would suggest seeing any one of them. The market area like Residency Road, Lal Chowk provides a good shopping experience and just a good stroll too if not anything else.

The apples they have planted are simply amazing. Food is good but not excellent, great is the taste of the Chinese cuisine restaurant they have. Mr. Ghulam is a great host and the entire staff was courteous and we experienced a great hospitality throughout. We had an early morning flight and the staff made sure we get our breakfast at 6 am in the morning. I heard that Habtoor is the best houseboat in Srinagar and I can surely say now that it really is the best, a 5 star experience indeed.
